Title: Help my local garage owner choose some fitting wheels for this rare beauty
Post by: Nino on 01 February 2014, 09:51
Hi guys, my local garage owner has a rare car that he has been restoring for some time, now im not 100% if this is the exact model however it looks the same as this in my eyes, I know it a V8 and has duel exit's on the back like shown in the picture below, has lovely red leather too! currently his is white but unsure if he plans to change the colour.

He is currently in the process of stripping the entire car, re-painted etc but want to slightly Euro look it by (I think) dropping the ride hight a tiny bit and putting some in his words "Dish style retro wheels" that will fit the look of the car.

Anyway take a read below about the car taken directly from the Wikipedia site located Here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maserati_Kyalami)

Maserati Kyalami

The Maserati Kyalami is an automobile produced by Italian manufacturer Maserati from 1976 to 1983.

Named after the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit in South Africa, it was a new model rushed into production after Alejandro de Tomaso took helm of the company. De Tomaso had Pietro Frua take Tom Tjaarda's design of the De Tomaso Longchamp (itself inspired by the Mercedes 450SLC) and modify the front and rear end to create a distinctive Maserati feel for the new car. The interior was also upgraded to incorporate classic Maserati elements such the steering wheel and instrumentation.

The Kyalami, a four-seater notchback coupe, was launched at the 1976 Geneva Motor Show and was initially available with Maserati's 265 PS (195 kW) 4.2 litre V-8 engine.[1] Starting in 1978, the larger 4.9 litre-V8 delivering 290 PS (213 kW) was also available. Both engines were coupled with a ZF five-speed manual transmission or upon request a three-speed automatic. Mechanically the Kyalami was closely related to its contemporary Quattroporte, which was also offered with the same engines and gearboxes.

210 Kyalamis[2] were built between 1976 and 1983. Due to its rarity very little was written in magazines about the Kyalami. However, direct owner experiences confirmed the fundamental validity of its design, with a well-balanced, stiff chassis offering excellent body control and an agile, very easy to control handling. The performance offered by the bore 4.9 V8 was characterized by the abundant power and torque delivered by the engine.

So if anyone could help him choose some fitting wheels that would be great, if you handy with photoshop, feel free to show your skills :)

Thanks in advance.

Its his car, and every owner can do what ever they want to their own car.

However..

If your info is correct, why is he not restoring it back to original spec, there were only 210 of them built.

It is after all, a Maserati!

He's had it awhile and he told me he paid alot for it. As far as I have been using him as my mechanic he has always been into these cars. I suppose he wants to make it his own if you get me?

OE wheels should be Campagnolo's, don't get much better than that imo

I got it slight wrong his car isn't the above, but I snapped a couple of pics when he was putting it back in his garage when I picked up my motor today.

As you can see this is how it came and needs work, he has already taken off alot of parts and them current wheels need to go.

I'm pretty sure they're the original wheels, if its a 430 or Bi-Turbo.
I'd keep them, maybe paint them Anthracite, and a 30mm drop... but in all honesty, the type or colour of the wheels will be the least of his problems :lipsrsealed:

So the wheels currently on the car are the standard wheels?

I know he does not like them, and wants a change.

Really!

Its an Italian thoroughbred! And I'm 98% sure they are the original rims, they'll either be BBS, Speedlines, Borani's or Campagnolos' and very high quality most likely forged at that, and not cheap cast items

Now, where can I find some Lenso's to fit my 308
