Just wondering what these coilovers are like? I've heard people are saying there good but they seem quite cheap? anyone using them on a 1.8t?

I used them on my old mk4, did the job and ride was fairly firm, same as my mk3. They can be very hit and miss though...some people say they only last 12-18months, a friend of mine has had the same set on 3 mk3s over 4years, and they're wound right down...
think i paid £165 for my Mk4 ones, £155 for the Mk3...

yeah I don't wanna buy them and they be a waste of money, I just want the car to handle better and not be slammed but lower if you get me?
-
Just remember you may have problems with your a.r.b fouling when lowering!
I sell FK AK's which come with new link bars (to move the a.r.b for clearance) for £185 delivered
-
Have you got a link or some pictures? I like that sound of that but I need a set that will last, I just need it to handle better I don't want to slam it, just a bit lower

Here's the set I do http://oemandmore.co.uk/fk-ak-street-coilovers-with-drop-links-712-p.asp (http://oemandmore.co.uk/fk-ak-street-coilovers-with-drop-links-712-p.asp)
I have used FK on several of my cars and the only thing I recommend is to ensure they are protected from seizure but that's same on all "budget" coils (I use grease myself)
-
they do look smart, how to they handle? I don't mind a hard ride, I just don't want a set that are gonna be unreliable
-
most/all budget coilovers are firm but fk don't seem as hard as some out there
FK have being around years (much longer than jom etc and to stay in business they must e doing something right) and they use a koni shock design also you can buy each part of the kits separate (more important if running at full drop as seals can fail after several years but this also effects expensive set up's)
-
ive got them, bee spot on for me, cant grumble for the price.

I ran JOMs on my 1.8t for over 2 years with no problems. Replaced them with Weitec Hicon GTs and wish I'd kept the JOMs to be honest. The JOMs were more comfortable, wound down lower, and one of Weitec rear shock absorbers popped right after the warranty ran out.
-
I do like the sound of the joms but witch are the better coilovers? aks or joms?
-
I have no issue with jom's although I do prefer fk as the seals, shocks, springs are all available separately (if the jom's gave up after a few years they are landfill!)
-
what about handling? joms or aks?
-
I am running JOMs on my mk4 atm admittedly its a 1.4 but after getting them hot a few times they stop being bouncy and have started really performing for me.
I run them quite low and have never had any problems with my ARB (don't know if you have thicker drive shafts on a 1.8T)
-
The JOM kit and FK AK Street are similar kits but I'd say the JOM have a better ride quality with a much longer warranty where as the FK AK Street have a slightly wider lowering range and better build quality.

U get what you pay for nuff said!! Many folks use joms and fk fks with no probs but if u can afford more get a better set

I think this thread has run it's course, just like the hundreds of others that already exist
