Title: Wheel experts needed! Clearing the arches!
Post by: RichardBaronGolf on 31 January 2014, 16:21
Hi guys!

Going to buy a brand new set of alloys! I'm looking at getting so 3sdm alloys size 16" 8j all round ET 10

All I would like to know is if these will clear the arches? for example could they sit like this audi :

http://www.3sdm.co.uk/

Not that I want it really low just worried about it hitting the lip on the inside of the arch!

http://mk3golfowners.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=1600 They wont without camber

Can anyone give me a little list of what they think will look good and also fit correcty without the need for camber etc.

No they wont!

You will need major arch work to fit the fronts at 8" with et20.

You want the wheel lip flush with arch lip?

I would get 8" et 20 all round then get your arches rolled and pulled to get them bang on.

If you want less work then et30

Thanks tweed ! I'm now looking to get a set that just fit as standard I.e no arch work needed as I can't be bother with the hassle!

Is there any chance anyone knows what combination of size etc with fit in the standard arch without modification?

Thank you,

Rich!

Seen these on a google search? http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/performance/alignment-products/car/volkswagen/golf-mk3-gti/eibach-alignment-vehicle-specific-ez-shim-rear-suspenion-dual-angle-shim-kit-camber-toe-alignment

Anyone had experience with these? Any idea where I could get them set up?

You'll never get your car sitting like that audi without air

ive got 3sdm's 0.05 16" 8j et10 front, 9j et 20 rear, 8's sit flush on the front with no work what so ever to them, my golf was sat half a filter box off the floor so all of 1" still could go lower but wasn't possible with having speed bumps at work. 9j rears need 25mm spacers to fit the centre caps, a smidge of camber and the arch lips rolled with a scaffold bar to clear :) no issues what so ever, fitted polybush bumpstops on the shocks to stop the body fowling the tyres but they still clear with about 5mm

Gonna camber the teledials now :) going to keep that in mind though as I love the 3sdm alloys!

Found a helpful company VW MAD UK near
Me in Essex that are going to install the shims so I can get the clearance I want! I'll let you know how it all goes and post pictures!
