why are there no digifant 16v.
and could you not run a 16v head on the digifant loom? what's stopping it?
-
Because they didn't need the emissions kit on the 16V and it all worked OK for the 80s and it saved redesigning the (probably lower volume) 16V motor.
The massively different breathing characteristics of the 16V head would mean the map on the (very basic) Digifant I and II wouldn't be suitable.
It's OK though - the ABF engine from the 16V Golf3 is an ideal candidate and the standard management is much more advanced than any of the electronic injection systems on the Golf2s.
-
Well DH will state the ABF is a better engine/management system, but there are a few of us who still like originality and being a purist refuse to use a MK3 golf system into a MK2.
I would rather stick a VR6 if I had no choice but to do a transplant or a G60 (1H) that is a 8ver with lower compression for supercharging!
-
I like originality to an extend although I like to have a few luxories, I have am 8v and it runs great but I want a 16v so badly, just to have that extra power

are you not going to tell us what was wrong with your car???
-
I still don't know what's wrong with my car

It doesn't have enough valves.

ah ok. its just what you wrote in reply 3 that threw me off. to fit the 16v head on the 8v you would need to change the pistons/timing belt sprockets/maybe the oil pump as there is double the amount of hydro lifters to pressurise. you would also have to figure out an injector/fuel rail set up. and the last thing I can think of is the digifant rev limiter cuts in around 6200rpm iirc. so you would never get the full revs that the 16v head is capable of.
