Title: DNS system and Spotify app streaming
Post by: MAW73 on 30 January 2014, 20:57
Does VW's RNS systems integrate with the Spotify app on a smart phone? In terms of streaming music, album artwork, playlists etc?

My bmw does to a degree but I have to navigate playlists via the phone which is a pitty.

never tried it on the RNS but it does on the discover pro. RNS isn't in the mk7 and you've posted in the mk7 board.

Apologies I meant the DNS media system's in the Mk7 of course not the old Mk6 RNS system.

So does anyone know if the above systems integrate fully with the Spotify App via a smart phone? In particular having the ability to display and navigate through albums, playlists etc

I use spotify with my DNS, it plays ok, and you can skip to the next track.
But that's it. No album art or ability to access playlists etc.

It would be great to have the spotify front end displayed in the car but I doubt that will ever happen.

That's a pity then and is exactly the same on my BMW. The bluetooth streaming sound quality is surprisingly good though. I use a Kenu Airframe to mount my phone on the dashboard vent. These mounts are fantastic and I'd highly recommend them.

If you connect your phone by Bluetooth I can't see there ever being a playlist or album art option on any car.   The best option is to get the right MDI lead for you phone  and try it that way.  Although I suspect that third party streaming apps (even if they have local storage options) can't even be used like you want to because they don't store files in native formats (MP3 etc) on the phone.

I've not tried it in the car, but Deezer is a better app than Spotify - give that a go!

The Deezer app is compatible with the iDrive system on the BMW I believe. Although you have to spec the BMW apps package @ circa £150 (which is a bloody cheek when you've payed nearly 2k for the media professional package).

I use spotify on a galaxy s2 with no problems or issues. as stated though no artwork or track lists and sound quality will only be as good as what you've downloaded.
