Title: Pothole problems
Post by: jake-w07 on 30 January 2014, 20:17
So coming home on the same road i drive along everyday and they had taken parts of the road up in random places, unknown to me as it was dark and there were no signs in sight, ive gone through two of them at between 30-40mph. The bang was that bad it made one of my centres come off which are anniversary screw on centres and near enough impossible to get off with your bare hand!

Now im getting vibrations through the wheel over 30mph, and really bad vibrations at 60-70mph on the motorway. Ive had a look for damage to the wishbones and control arms and all looks okay, also looked as good as i could while the wheels are on the car for buckles and cant see anything obvious.

I'm thinking the wheels are buckled and i cant see it on the outer edges, has anybody had any experiences with having wheels straightened or am i best off gettin myself another set ?

Cars in the garage saturday for a service so there gonna give it a looking over underneath n try balance the wheels but im not holding out much hope as i think its to much vibrations for weights to sort, theyve suggested worse case i get the wheels straightened.

  :undecided:

I would say that the wheels are buckled. as far as I no it is pretty dear getting them straightened but if the wheels are not very badly buckled they can balance them with a lot of them small weights. Also watch out for slow punchers cause one of the wheels might have a hairline crack.

Wouldn't surprise me if you have a flat tyre tomorrow. Proberbly buckled/cracked alloy.

Put a claim in to the council.

Could've also been your sump and that your trackings now out.

Or something suspension related.

I smacked mine full into a curb at at least 60mph. Totally Spunked the sidewall of the tyre and buckled the alloy in a way I had never seen before. It would turn the steering wheel right continuously even at 2 mph. Visibly nothing wrong with it. Looked for ages and can't see any bulges even if you spin it.

Swapped wheel cars perfect. How there is no suspension or chassis is beyond me. I can only think that the swerve I made somehow took the weight off.

Tyres are still holding air taking it a tyre bay today to see if the alloys are infact buckled

God i hate potholes they are everywhere. One reason ill never lower my car again. They resurfaced a long road only to spray it with tar and cover it in lose tarmac , its back to sh!t in a week and now even worse ,we are now driving on slippery tar and lose tarmac . We pay road tax for what ? You try and put a claim in for the damage and they come out fix the pothole and say its happened because your car is old.

I third the idea of taking the council to court, it is possible to get a full refund if they haven't fixed the pit hole just need to get some pics of the pot hole and how deep it is. And also of what the damage is....
