Check the boost pipes for any leaks. When u rev the engine do you hear any hissing noises

Get it scanned for fault codes.

As Dom says get it scanned it could be one of a few problems ranging from a blown turbo to a boost leak just out of interest what year is it
Also does it seem to drive ok ie running sweet just no turbo

That would just be sacrilege.
"Here you go mate one golf gti but something is wrong with the turbo"
Then he walks away muttering "what's wrong is it never had a turbo"
I know a few dealers like that!!

If you've got an aftermarket headunit then you need to check that there is nothing connected to the k-line. Take the headunit out look at the lower iso block, there should be nothing connected to the grey and white wire that is part of the factory wiring.

You need to get it scanned really as it could be any number of things wrong.

I will take the radio out now and have a check is there anything else what could stop it connecting

Not that I can think of, if I remember correctly it's the 3rd pin from the right on the top row of the lower ISO block as you look at it.
