Whats your views on the above? Ive been looking for plates with my initials in it and found a couple none stand out as a private plate well not on a mk4 they wont .... my names adrian sammons so ive found the following.
AS02 DUB - not keen
VW02 ADS - like it but not for £500 as it wont stand out on a mk4. It can be interpreted 2 ways either VW02 AD'S or VW02 AD Sammons
Theres loads with my initials but none relate to the car :(

I think personal number plates should be personal to you and not relating to your car, if i could afford a plate I would get one but from what I am told there is alot of hassle to get one and i hate plates that are sparfic to the car I.E i saw an audi S3 the other day and the plate was "S3 boy"

IMO, Waste of moeny.
would like one, but could think of lots of things id rather spend the money on...
performance mods for the car
cosmetic mods for the car (i know you could class this as a cosmetic mod in a way but you get the idea)
holiday/weekend away with the missus
holiday/weekend away with the lads
lads night out
cloths
tv
games consoles
etc etc etc
private plate would be way at the bottom of my list...
as for making it suite your name/car.
to be honest, even if its was MK04 DUB(i know you couldnt have that but its just an example), most people wouldnt even reconise its a private plate or look twice at it, also if it spelt out your initials most people wouldnt bat an eye lid. only you and your close friends will know what it means.
in my opinion, people get them so that people cant tell the age of there car. i.e. know a few people who have them on there cars (Beemers (M3 & a V8 6 series), Audis, Porsches etc.) and if you didnt know the age of the car you wouldnt guess its around ten years old.
in my mind if you want a decent private plate then you have to spend alot of moeny, i.e i saw an r8 and a tuned 350z at the nurburg which had plated that said something like 2slow and something to do with the word bye (cant remember what it was) now them plates are cool, but proberbly cost the owners more than a mk4 is worth....

they are more hassle than they are worth with fees and messing abiut. I had G4RRL with a bolt in the G to make it look like a C. all my mates ripped the piss out of me and said it was sh!t but I liked it. The main ballache is when you have to pay for it every year if you take it off a car and put it on retention.

Believe me I had no intention of spending that sort of money if they were like £100 wouldnt be to bad but 500 for a plate thats pot luck no one else has is ridiculous plus I want an xbox one way more than a plate lol

nothing wrong with a decent plate im in the process of removing 1 just now thats up for sale ideal if you had an rs4 :smiley:

got mine to a. flick 2 fingers at the ex and her sh!tty family (long,boring story :grin:) and b. cos it spelt out my nickname that ive had for the last 30 years so P1 LGO will now be on what ever car i have.
its the only plate that id of got and could'nt believe it when it actualy came up on the dvla site :smug:

The newer plates that are issued now are pretty pooh with some exceptions,but the older plates that are no longer issued can be a great long term investment depending on the plate of course. I have owned my own plate for 18 years now ill pass mine onto my oldest son who has the same name as me Blu :wink:

The missus found it on eBay, the scooter it was on was up for MOT very soon and wouldn't have passed so the plate needed to shifted quick hence the price.
All from a legit place too, just cost me £36 plus the transfer fees. It's even got 36 in the numbers lol

As mentioned, they are a great way of concealing the age of your car, but they're a ball ache when having to transfer vehicles. My plate has seen four bumpers now. Having the plate personalised to you rather than the car is certainly the way to go! Saw a 1 series bmw with 'S3 ***' :undecided:

Prefer having my own plate just hassle of transfer each time i change cars had my plate for a few years now and been on lots of cars :lipsrsealed: :grin:

Check this for a class factory plate looks like "Waiiiiii down" would suit a slammed car lovely.

I like plates that are shorter, ie. Have 5 or 6 characters. IMO if it has 7 digits it can just look almost too standard.

Me too. We have single digit prefix plates on both our daily cars and I bought similar ones for our kids when they were born, knowing that when they get to driving age, they will be very hard to come by. I know that means I'm paying £50 a year to keep them both on retention, but I think it's worthwhile.
New style private plates don't look like anything special to me, especially if you have to point out to people what it means.
