Driving home tonight, accelerating away from a roundabout I noticed a flicker of orange on the dash out of the corner of my eye. Assuming it was just the traction control light (a common occurrence on these Bridgestone tyres), I ignored it but a few seconds later I noticed it was actually the coil light flashing. :mad:
Power was fine, definitely wasn't in limp mode. On the MFD, "Error - Start Stop System" was displayed.
I pulled over at the next layby, switched off and restarted and all seemed fine until the next time I came to use the start stop system. The car cut out fine, but after a few seconds the flashing coil light came back and it would only restart manually. The start stop error was there again on the MFD.
This happened a couple more times, but the last time the orange engine- shaped light came on and has stayed on, even after numerous restarts.
I've phoned my local dealer and the soonest they can take it in and give me a courtesy car is Monday. They reckon it's safe to drive if the lights aren't red and it's not in limp mode.
Very very annoying for a car just over a month old though. Anyone here experienced anything similar, or shed any light?

Funny, same thing happened in my MK6 just last week, exactly same warning and light on the dash. Except mine went into limp mode. Took it to dealers and the...EGR valve(if I remember correctly)needed replacing.

Does VW not sell their cars with breakdown cover (roadside assistance) in the UK???
Before knowing what the fault code is the dealer is just guessing that it won't do any harm to drive it. There isn't a red engine light, only an orange one... So interesting how they deduct from a distance it will be safe.
Call VW, ask them to tow it to a garage and sort out hire car (they got contracts with all the big hire companies anyway).

I phoned VW assist at the weekend about an error message on my day old GTD, one of the first questions they asked was is the warning light red or orange? Kinda got the impression if it had been orange they may have been more dismissive.

Bit of an update - dealer kept my car for 2 days, diagnosed the fault as something to do with the throttle body. I had the pleasure (not!!) of a VW Up for 48hrs, was god awful!!!
Picked it up tonight, it had to have a new throttle body fitted. Seems to be ok now, even feels slightly quicker (although that may just be me had got used to the Up).
