Title: mk6 gti remap
Post by: rst123 on 26 January 2014, 20:13
Hi,

Looking to have a remap on my mk6 gti,
what kind of results have you had?

Also going to be upgrading brakes but not sure what to get!

I'm going to go to track days regularly and wondering what will be best :)

PS I'm useless when it comes to mechanics :(

Anybody tried these?

Hi

You would get a bigger response on the MK6 section, plenty of topics if you search too.

Some of the big names in remapping are Revo/APR and GIAC, I have Revo but also had an indy remap on my MK5. There are independents such as Shark and Carbon who develop their own remaps.

As for the link, I haven't heard of maps from this firm and it isn't clear whether they are offering their own code or acting as a reseller for the likes of Revo et al.

I would try and pick somewhere within a reasonable distance in case you have problems post remap, a decent tuner will be able to assist in these circumstances. Also I would it would be preferable to have the remap undertaken at a facility with a dyno so that you can see before and after results.

Are you wanting to upgrade the brakes and other parts for tracking? I probably wouldn't take my daily for regular track days. It's a whole different ball game setting a car up properly for the track and you will be exposing the whole car to extra stress.

Thanks for your response,
I'll look into those, the one near me looks decent but I'd be better off going with a well known name.
I wanted to update the brakes for the track yes, I'm planning to track it every month or so. I should really get a cheap car (clio 182, e36 3 series...) for the track but don't fancy insuring another car (at these rip off prices!).
I was originally going to use the TT roadster on the track but not having a roll cage it wouldn't be the best idea (Plus I don't want to wreck it adding a roll cage).

So you're West Midlands way?

Midland VW are a Revo dealer or you could try Carbon in Altrincham.

Cheers, yeah I live near Cannock  Will have a look at those and probably use them :)
Looking forward to the extra power, will be good to compare it from before and after on the track!

A Driver Motorsport tune provides more power and great torque curve.
The HP numbers are WheelHP:http://www.drivermotorsport.com/mk6.html

Unfortunately my golfs been dead for a while now, due to the clutch. Shame as the increase in power felt great on the day the remap was done!
Due to the increase in power it killed the clutch (which was already dying to be fair) Also had coilpacks replaced for cylinders 3 and 4 as they were misfiring. Now the car will hardly go, keeps juddering and struggles to rev past 1500rpm. Hopefully will get the new clutch (been recommended a sachs clutch inc fitting about £850) shortly so I can finally drive it again. Has this happened to any others on here and what other things may I need to change now it's on a revo stage 1?

Im no expert but I would say that if it wont rev past 1500rpm replacing the clutch wont fix it, changing the clutch would just stop the clutch slip, id be speaking to who you got it mapped by and asking their advice if its only happen since the remap.

As far as the clutch goes it seems to be a common problem on higher mileage cars especially when you got stage 2, im looking at my car remapped soon but gonna have the cash in the bank for a new clutch waiting for when it goes (prob from reading post will be a sachs clutch aswell), have a search on here as you may need another item replaced in the clutch (cant remember what it is, as I said im not an expert) but I think it added about another £400 onto the price of getting it changed
