Title: little silver valve thingy ma bob? ? what does it do??

seen this the other day and i havent touched it and i dont know what it does any one any ideas its inbetween the pipe between the air filter inlet to the engine and a black unit on the left hand side of the engine bay
gonna drop some pics in the next few mins

An air leak also known as an Ecotek valve, I think.  :rolleyes:

throw it in the nearest bin. things like that might help old cars but modern cars are so efficient that it would probably be a step backwards running around with one of them on it.

right ill bin it then it is a 99 so not too modern but i cant see it doing anything to improve the engine or mpg ill hunt a new pipe now but ive got a coupler that should fit

Trail above shows a picture with black box with a switch on the top and a hose running to/ from it. Can anyone tell me:
A) Whether it should be clicking?
B) What it does?
