Welcome chaps!  Was worrying I was the only one here!

EzzG - my car is ordered from JCB Medway in Kent - yours too?
Title: Re: BW8 Club
Post by: EzzG on 29 January 2014, 18:26
I also joined so it wasn't a lonely club ! Now i've got others to enjoy the experience with,, my girlfriends getting sick of me talking about it lol !

I ordered mine from Euro Canterbury,, wish i went with JCB as every time i pop past/in the Ashford one they always have GTDs and GTIs there ready to be collected !

I'm coming from a mk4 golf gti and going for a PW GTD with dynaudio,, should be a big step up
Title: Re: BW8 Club
Post by: Mark V GTD on 29 January 2014, 19:42
Don't worry - talk as much as you want to here - we wont get sick of it!

JCB Medway are a supplier with one of the big brokers so they always have a high throughput of cars - particularly GTD and GTI's for discount hugry buyers!

Mark when did you place your order ?? ordered mine October 29th !!
Title: Re: BW8 Club
Post by: Mark V GTD on 30 January 2014, 19:39
Friday 1st November - and then it was processed the following week (which was a bit chaotic as the there was a 1% price hike on the Monday)!
Title: Re: BW8 Club
Post by: noexcuse on 30 January 2014, 22:11
I ordered mine on the 31st October. Had gone into the same local VW dealers (less than 3 miles away) back in June, the young salesman was trying to get me to sign up that day for a £400 discount off list price. Same dealers via a different route got 12% off, a tank of fuel and an autogylm life shine all thrown in. I was using the drive the deal pricing as a bench mark and got better with 2 emails and one visit.
Title: Re: BW8 Club
Post by: Mark V GTD on 31 January 2014, 00:07
Amazing - we all ordered within a few days of each other!

No Excuse - what did you order?
Title: Re: BW8 Club
Post by: noexcuse on 31 January 2014, 01:21
My current car is GT TDI Mk4 have had it almost 11 Years ! So Naturally it has to be a GTD, Manual, CSG, Leather, reversing camera, Park assist, Service pack, 4 Year Warranty and more importantly keyless entry. Could not justify the Sat Nav option or DSG. Had ordered it as a company car back in June for a September delivery which slipped to December. Working out the tax and loss of company allowance was going to cost be approx £6k pa over 3 years £18k !!!. Looking to keep it for 3 years and then sell on self finance (£16k  life savings and the other £10k on a credit card balance transfer 3% over 30 months. Much cheaper than the 6% pa VW option. Getting excited now end of March cannot come soon enough
Title: Re: BW8 Club
Post by: Mark V GTD on 31 January 2014, 09:59
Nice choice of colour!  So you mean you canceled the original company car order?
Title: Re: BW8 Club
Post by: noexcuse on 31 January 2014, 16:53
The company car was ordered through a leasing company. I had asked for the tracking number "we have never been asked for a tracking number ever before" Did not like the attitude of them had to deal via HR dept could not talk directly as the salesman too busy. After speaking to VWCS they gave me a December delivery !. Then there was no courtesy car ! for the 20+ week wait.  I cancelled they tried to negotiate with the offer of a courtesy car, to little too late.

As we all ordered at around the same time does anyone know what exhaust system we get ? as the sport and sound pack wasn't an option back then !
Title: Re: BW8 Club
Post by: Mark V GTD on 01 February 2014, 16:58
Just the standard one Ezz. You could have added 'Sport and Sound Pack' after BW45 if you had wanted it (up until you got the confirmed Build Week).
Title: Re: BW8 Club
Post by: EzzG on 03 February 2014, 23:12
I'm sure/hope the standard exhaust will still sound nice !!

Post by: Mark V GTD on 17 February 2014, 14:32
Well here we are at BW8 finally!  My tracker still says 'build week confirmed' but that is as expected as obviously the car may not go in to production until the second half of this week....
Title: Re: BW8 Club

I never got a tracking number just keep harassing my dealer.. Got to go past there tomorrow so might pop in and hopefully get the good news that my car is being built this week !!
Title: Re: BW8 Club
Post by: Mark V GTD on 17 February 2014, 22:53
Good luck Ezz!

Thse fast build dates appear to apply to GTI's generally...
Title: Re: BW8 Club
Post by: EzzG on 17 February 2014, 23:02
Thanks Mark !! Good Luck to everyone else on this build week,, hopefully all our cars will be in transit by the end of the week

Yeah i also noticed the quick builds where all GTI's !! Must be a much larger number of GTD's being built for all the fleet buyers !!

I was sitting in the window of a restaurant yesterday and a pure white GTD went cruising past,,, that didn't help with me trying not to think about it to much !! Really can't wait now !!

I'm in this BW too but we have no tracker in Australia so I don't get the level of detail you guys do. It takes a few weeks on the ship. I should have it by early-mid May. Ordered mid October.

Been resisting from logging on the VW tracker portal today !  finally been tempted to check and it has jumped from "Build Week Confirmed" yesterday to "In Transit" today

Are the other BW 8'ers getting the same message ?

Title: Re: BW8 Club
Post by: Mark V GTD on 19 February 2014, 18:25
Nope - still shows 'Build week confirmed' for me - but there is still three days of the week left!
Title: Re: BW8 Club
Post by: noexcuse on 20 February 2014, 00:24
That has me thinking is the tracker right ? (with it missing the build phase !) on the FAQ it states it takes approx 30 hours over 2 or 4 Days to build a Golf. MarkVGTD what options do you have on your's .
Title: Re: BW8 Club
Post by: EzzG on 20 February 2014, 14:44
Heard from the dealer today and got my tracking number

I'm still on build week confirmed for this week !!
Had my first look on the tracker, (on my iphone) says the car model, colour and type of interior, but doesn't show dynaudio on there ! Should it show any options ??
Title: Re: BW8 Club
Post by: Mark V GTD on 20 February 2014, 15:11
No Ezz, it does not show options. It only shows the basic car type and paint colour. The upholstery section also refers to the colour of the upholstery rather than the design/pattern, or if its leather or cloth so dont pay too match attention to that either. Most say 'Titan Black'.
Title: Re: BW8 Club

MarkVGTD what options do you have on your's .

Its a 3-door DSG in 'Carbon Grey' with Navigation Pro, Winter Pack, Reversing camera, Park Assist, High Beam Assist and Dynaudio.

Title: Re: BW8 Club

Then you may not have a confirmed build week yet and they are just guessing. The factory issues them about four weeks in advance. Cars built last week are being expected for late March collection so even of your leasing company  are spot on with their guess you are probabaly looking at Build Week 12 or 13 for early May hand-over.

Just checked the tracker again for the umpteen time today

Maths has never been my strongest point it has gone from 3 weeks to:-

Your car is in the final stage of its journey to the UK. On average it takes 10 days from build for this model to reach your local Volkswagen Retailer.

Yet so close but so far :lipsrsealed:

Post by: noexcuse on 02 March 2014, 13:08
Showing as Step 6 of 7 arrived in the Uk.

Your car has now arrived in the UK and will be delivered to your local Volkswagen Retailer shortly. This normally takes 7 days.

   Getting excited now as the delivery was projected for the end of March.

Any updates for you Mark V GTD, EzzG, karlak and VWTM545 ?
Title: Re: BW8 Club
Post by: Mark V GTD on 02 March 2014, 13:50
A lot of VW stuff (including the finance calculator and Tracker) seem to be off line at the mo.

I still have old car to sell so frankly not looking for the new one to arrive super fast (have a loose date of 1st April for collection) - sorry I'm the opposite to everyone else!  Would have ordered later but the prices were going up by 1% so decided to order on 1st November and just hoped it would take ages to arrive!

Update - Tracker is back but still showing 'In transit - 3 weeks to go' phew!  I guess your car must have been built at the start of the week and mine at the end!

Cars can wait for a while at the UK end before leaving the dockside storage areas though....

Cars can wait at the dealer for a while awaiting a PDI as well; mine has been there for a week now and I've been told that it may be a couple of weeks before it's ready yet.
Title: Re: BW8 Club
Post by: VWTM545 on 02 March 2014, 21:22
No update on my end, although as Mark V GTD says the tracker doesn't seem to be working.

I'm also in no rush to get my car as i'm driving 600-700 miles a week at the minute on quite rough roads where stone chips are pretty common. I got a massive one last week on my current car and was just glad it wasn't the GTD!!
Saying all that I'm massively looking forward to collecting it when it arrives!!

Also when my car arrives in the UK it still has to get another boat to make it across to NI, so I'll be waiting a bit longer than you guys!

Got an interesting letter today from VW.

Apparently there has been a delay on my build date and as a result they have enclosed £50 of leisure vouchers as a gesture of goodwill.

I emailed my dealer last week and my car was sitting in Emden waiting to be shipped. Thanks VW for the £50

Yea I wouldn't be pleased if my car had been delayed and this is what I got in the post!! It is quite frankly a joke!
I'll just give the dealer a quick call and see if this is a mistake, but i'm 99% certain it is! :undecided:

Update - Just got off the phone to the dealer and there is nothing wrong. So now I can treat myself to some cleaning stuff

I've received the same letter and vouchers, I thought it might have been because they couldn't get me the car by 1 March, which was the date I wanted the car for.

Nice gesture, but I might email the dealer just to check everything is Ok.

I also got this letter and vouchers - no idea what they are going on about with their carefully worded apology. When I prdered I was told five months or so to get the car and thats how its panning out... maybe they have just had so many people moan they decided to do a block voucher distribution to everyone with a car on order regardless. I guess it will pre-empt the people who have not complaiend yet...

Oh and I am still at 'three weeks to go' and have been all week. If it really means that then I would not expect it to change to 10 days until mid next week.

I would say just common sense stuff like is everything working, are all your options on it and is the bodywork 100%!
Maybe ask about the transport pucks as this seems to be a common thing forgot about!

Title: Re: BW8 Club
Post by: Jthgti on 06 March 2014, 18:17
As you say, keep your head on and don't get so excited that you don't check things properly. There are a lot of threads on this board with quite detailed checklists, but most look too detailed to be practical to me.

What you really need to check are things that there will be no comeback with once you've left the forecourt - so check the paintwork, wheels, interior for marks and scratches. Also check you have all the unattached bits - 2 keys, logbook, iphone cables etc. Also check that all options ordered are present and correct. Apart from that it's up to you, if there are mechanical / electrical issues, etc it will generally be covered under warranty..

I'm supposed to be picking my BW7 GTD up next week so I'll be using this advice myself (if I don't get too excited!)

Also check you have all the unattached bits - 2 keys, logbook, iphone cables etc. Also check that all options ordered are present and correct. Apart from that it's up to you, if there are mechanical / electrical issues, etc it will generally be covered under warranty..

+1 for this! Certainly more detailed than my advice

I think it would take the excitement out of the handover process if you went through a detailed checklist!

My order number is not recgonised in the tracker now, does that mean its with the dealer, called them yesterday and got no real update from them

It doesn't necessarily mean it's at the dealers! I have had this happen to me a few times for no apparent reason!

The dealer will definitely let you know so they can get their money!!

Ezz - you need to press the 'Reply' button (not the 'quick reply' button) and then upload them through the 'manage attachments' tab.

PS: Mine changed to 'arrived in UK' this morning!

The wait is now agonising

Seems that every car I see at the moment is a mk 7 Golf, saw a white GT this morning at the lights and next to it was a Silver GTI.

Am I being too optimistic thinking i might get the car by next weekend.

Thats great news that you chaps have picked up your cars - hope you really enjoy them and it was worth the long wait

My tracker turned to 'your car has arrived at your local VW retailer and is ready for colection' this morning.... so this afternoon I drove over there and was unable to find it. Enquiring at reception was no help and they eventually told me the car was not on site! It ight be at the compount they said - and then told me the tracker was often a few days ahead of itself..... thanks a lot!

I mean what is the point of giving such precise info as that and it not being accurate?

Finally got the news I have been waiting for! The car has arrived!

I was told last Monday (17th) that I would have the car by that Friday (21st)! That didn't happen cause the company that delivers the cars hadn't been delivering anything!
This week I was rang on Tuesday asking for my tax disc for my reg transfer and finally today I got the phone call that the car was in! The fact that the dealer didn't know where the car was or when it was due was rather worrying!

It'll all be forgotten about tomorrow when I go to collect! Lets hope it all goes smoothly

Great to hear you guys are getting your cars real soon !! Had mine 2 weeks now and it's just great,, didn't quite realise just how much nicer it drives until having to drive my old Mk4 GTI again, which has now gone to a new owner !! i am only at 350 miles and its so hard having to hold back on not reeving it to hard

Picked mine up today but having major suspension issues - I think the transport pucks have been left in. If not, the suspension is the worse I have ever experienced on a car - it bottomed out about four or five times on the way home - bone jarring crunch each time - just awful....
Title: Re: BW8 Club
Post by: silver38 on 28 March 2014, 00:28
Have you got standard suspension or ACC/DCC?

After much waiting i finally got my new GTD today  I have to say this car is GREAT!!!

The seats are very comfortable, and the ride is so much better than the BMW 320d M sport i have just come from. The finishes are really quailty and i waited patiently for it to get dark to see the internal lighting which looks Fab.

Thanks for everyone for making this forum so informative and friendly - good to finally be part of the club!
