Title: MK6 Golf GTD 2012 Remap
Post by: ab17790 on 24 January 2014, 19:18
Good Evening People

Just wanted to share my experience with regards to having my MK6 Golf Remapped.

I purchased the GTD in march and have been very happy with the performance and mpg but i don't think the performance is high enough for it to warrant a GTD badge as it isn't a Diesel GTI its more so a GT TDI.I have been toying with the idea of a remap for some time and so finally after doing my homework i had it remapped through a company my work use for Diesel Injector cleaning and other things. They don't give the biggest gains and they are not the smallest gains they are in the middle so a nice blend of  MPG/Performance.

A lot of people in the past have told me about MPG improvement and i have always been like ye ok sure its better, thinking what are they talking about but since the remap the MPG has gone up by around 7-9 on the motorway which is the most of my journey going to work and i think part of this is because of all the low end torque. Before if you wanted to overtake something you would have to drop from 6th to 4th but since the remap i can leave her in 6th and just foot to the floor and BYE BYE ;)

I understand what a fast diesel feels like as my father has a 535D 350+hp DMS package and that thing goes well but I'm still impressed with he performance of the GTD and it finally deserves to be called a GTD ;)

Best Bits

-No Smoke
-MPG Improvement
-Doesn't want to make you drive silly
-The power isn't in one place it is across the rev range
-Not a heavy remap so should be kind to the DPF

Also since the remap i have removed the sound actuator and that makes a difference

Any Questions please feel free to ask ;)

Ashley

I once went to remove my sound actuator and couldnt really find it, I know where its suppose to be but couldnt see it.

I didn't remove my wipers, just move them to 12 o'clock position then you get enough room to lift the trim above them :)

It won't smoke with a DPF in place.

We get cars in at work with some remaps (with dpf) they smoke, just depends on what remap

Non German??

Fords and Vauxhalls tend to smoke  :lipsrsealed:

VW's, Audi's, Mercs and BMW's run clean; even with a fair bit power through them

My A3 never smoked with the DPF in place

I thought about a 335d but it comes with a torque converter...the newer 8 speed auto in the F series gets good reviews.

Also the economy isn't that great. I can imagine traction will be a problem with those torque figures.

Dads car has got the 8 Speed ZF gearbox which is really good,i think he averages around 40mpg but he doesn't really drive it that hard once in a blue moon he will use the power, waste of time putting you foot down unless you are in third gear otherwise it just "spins spins spins"

Sorry thought it was E60. The F series will be more efficient and they are offering X drive in the UK for some models now which should make better use of the power .

You can only get the new F series 335d in X Drive, not rwd option on this model currently.

Back to the OP, I wanted to have my old Leon FR remapped, never got it done sadly but it sounds a s though your pleased, has it made the mid range really punchy?

I was thinking about 535d and 335d at one stage, although the whole 'big turbo likes to eat the little turbo' thing put me off

The best bit about the performance is the mid range but since having the remap done I've emailed the company to see if there is anything else they can do,fingers crossed having a dyno run next week with a custom map :)
I've been spoilt as I've driven a few new S3's at work and it's knocked my respect for the GTD :( grrrr

I've had mine mapped by Revo and gotta say its an animal. The map is REALLY aggressive and I've lost nearly 6-7mpg. Power delivery is instant and mid range torque is unbelievable, no smoke or anything. Thinking of going for a stage 2 with a Miltek and DPF delete but really a bit sceptical about a diesel with an aftermarket exhaust as I've never heard one before?

A bit disappointed as I thought I'd get better mpg figures as that was my whole reason for buying a GTD....may as well have gone for a GTI now :(

If you are using the extra performance a lot, it stands to reason that your mpg will have suffered. The extra power has to be made using something, other than electronic witchcraft. Drive it normally and you will see mpg improvements compared to standard.

If you are thinking about further tuning and DPF deletion, bear in mind that the DPF will need to be in place for MOT's from later on this year.

Not at all, when driving normally around town and also motorway there has been a significant drop in mpg. I can be a real Eco driver when I want to be, but as mentioned there has been a big drop in mpg from the revo remap

Real brim to brim figures, or what the computer tells you? My computer is up the spout on my Passat since it's remap. It used to be spot on at 52-55mpg over each tank of fuel. Now it's telling me it's doing 60mpg, when in reality it's 55ish.

Remember if you push a GTI which you would as its a lot less Torque than a Remapped GTD you will easily be sub 25-28MPG,Im getting 55+ on a run 70MPH with cruise on and 45+ on country road blast.

My MPG has improved a lot,i think the car is quicker than i think its just that I drive a lot of fast cars at work on a daily basis,A friend of mine has a standard MK5 GTI and he cant keep up with the GTD,

I would be careful about pushing the standard turbo too much,I see a lot of standard 170 Turbo's fail never mind ones that are being pushed a little.

I heard a GTD with a miltek and it sounds ok,its like the TT tdi which doesn't have a back box only a centre silencer.

This looks good
