Hi,
I'm not having much luck; had the car 4 days and a lorry threw a stone right into my windscreen! It's right in my field of view too which means they won't repair it (it's also on the size limit for repair anyway).
Has anyone else had a replacement screen yet? Just wondering if anyone had any issues with the rear view mirror removal given all the tech in it?
I hope they don't damage my car in the process! They did on my previous car!

On a previous car I owned I had rain sensor on the windscreen where it is usually situated and it never worked again after the windscreen was replaced. This was a few years ago now and hopefully windscreen repairers are more careful these days.

Unfortunately similar experience with me. I took my Mk 6 back in to the dealer because of a damp problem and they discovered that the windscreen wasn't sealed properly. They refitted it (at least their shi**y sub-contractors did) and rain sensor was sporadic and useless afterwards. They claimed to have fixed it afterwards but I'm fairly sure it was never the same. Make sure it's a reputable company who you can hold responsible should your high beam/ lane assist/ rain sensor/ internal temp sensor/ humidity sensor not work afterwards!

I second that! I would ensure it is a VW assured fitter just to cover your back if anything goes wrong.
-
Also, make sure you get an OEM windscreen. Don't believe what the windscreen fitter says, aftermarket ones just aren't as good.

I had the screen in my MK6 replaced twice, both times OEM VW screen. Both times a perfect job, you'd never tell it was replaced. The MK6 had a similar mirror / rain sensor attachment and it was fine.

Me too, although I insisted it was VW screen and that the rain sensor was replaced, rather than the old one being reattached to the new screen!

Tell them to order a replacement sensor before they fit it, the sensors are bonded to the screen so all they do is butcher them to get them off so they never work properly again.

So that's what my poor sensors were subjected to

Sounds like people get mixed results with regards to the rain sensor. I am getting it done by AutoGlass. They did ask me if it had a rain sensor so hopefully they know what to do. I'm sure it will never be the same though :-(

Thanks for mentioning this! I just assumed it would be a VW screen. I called them and they said the customer had to specifically ask for a genuine VW screen! This wasn't mentioned to me when I made my original booking. I also requested that it came with a new rain sensor. Unfortunately I'm going to have to wait a bit longer for it now.

I've opted for a heated screen on this car. I am hoping the only ones available are the Vw ones :)

Had my mk7 only 2 weeks when I got a stonechip from some gravel thrown at me by an A4 quattro...
Lucky it's small enough so I won't bother to get it fixed now (only chip on outside, not a crack or anything), as it would be full replacement since in field of vision.
Wonder how much it would be though..... front cam for beam assist, rain sensor, heated front screen
Full replacement if you go to VW as it's all bonded onto screen apparently...

Yeah I have all that apart from the heated part. I'm just waiting for it all to be processed now. I'll post back my results once it's all done. I'm worried that the rain sensor will not work as effectively once changed :-(

We have been unfortunate enough to need two replacement windscreens on our Mk5 gti.
The first was replaced by a VW dealership and the second was replaced by autoglass (not my choice!)
Luckily, after both replacements, everything still worked, including the rain sensor - which is as sh!t now as it's always been!

Mine works perfectly at the moment.
