I ALSO NOTICED THAT OF LATE WHEN CHANGING GEARS ITS NO LONGER SMOOTH I HAVE TO TRY A COUPLE OF TIMES BEFORE I CAN GET IT ESPECIALLY INTO THE FIRST GEAR.
ANY HELP AND ADVISE IS APPRECIATED.

STOP SHOUTING!
The gunk on the filler cap could be a sign the headgasket has gone, however it can also be caused by doing lots of short journeys.
What car and engine?

Yellow stuff is water / condensation etc mixed with oil.
Gear change problem could be due to low oil in gear box or could be due to a worn linkage, or just that the box needs realigning.

hello mcgee9t2, my car engine size is a 2 litre golf GTi

Are you doing a lot of short runs.

if you do short journeys this will happen, due to condensation
