Title: Dynamic cornering not working?
Post by: Mk1Macca on 22 January 2014, 21:38
I've noticed that the lights that aim to the side in the headlights don't seem to be working.

I've looked in the settings page and turned them off and back on again (technical trick), but to no avail. When I demo'd the GTD, they functioned while stationary (which makes it easier to see if they're on), but should they? Are they actually working, but I can't see it when stationary as they don't function?

when stationary, that is the static lights, not the dynamic cornering ones :)
(As far as i am aware)

Sorry, you're right, that's what I meant. Those side aiming lights don't appear to be functioning :(

hmmmm, well i'm pretty sure there is a limit to the speeds they work, but easily visible in the dark...
Interested to find out a bit more about them etc though - might go do some digging.

The Dynamic cornering (not the fog lights coming on at each side) only work above 60kph/40mph. You can set these in the central computer thing to Sport, normal or off...

Its worth noting they don't come on if you've got Eco mode selected I believe.

That IS worth noting. The car is currently in eco.

Stand by for a quick run outside in my jammies to check...

Easy way to check if the lights themselves are working is to stick it in reverse as for some reason VW have decided to enable reversing lights on the front!

Problem solved :)

To clarify, the low speed side lights will NOT come on in Eco mode.

Thanks Kyle!

Sorry to resurrect this thread but I have trawled through numerous threads and I can't work out what UK-spec GTDs have.

I think that they have both static cornering lights (fogs or little bulbs in main cluster) and possibly also dynamic cornering function that operates above a certain speed (lens of main bulb 'moves' to direct main bulb light).

Is all that correct?

I ask as the VW website specifically lists the 'R' as having static cornering but the description for the GTD makes no mention of any cornering function..... I'm confused/

Yup,
The GTD and GTi are the same, have static and dynamic lights.
They only work in car which are no Eco :)

Thanks for the clear and straight foward reply.

I wonder why cornering is only mentioned on the R on the website and on the GTI and R in the manual.

Does anybody else think that VW make it really hard to work out what the spec of each model is?

I think Volkswagen UK do get information wrong or miss it entirely but this probably down to poor communications links with VW AG.
Car are so advanced these days and the marketing, sales and customer service staff can't keep up. :)
