Hey
I was driving today and the oil pressure warning message appeared, pulled over and when I started up again the message came straight up and there is a loud rattling noise coming from the engine when revving and accelerating.
Is this the oil pump gone? Or I've read that it could be the oil pick up pipe maybe at fault.
Does anyone have an ideas?
Cheers
Pete
P.s it's a mk4 1.8T 20v, Y reg

Could be a blocked oil pick up as they are common for blocking up. I wouldnt start it again until you have changed the pick up

I'd also say oil pickup pipe is a likely culprit, definitely don't drive it until you've had the sump off the check.

Ok thanks for that
Noise has stopped now, but warning message still there, will get it checked out straight away
Cheers

Yep, as others have said, don't drive it at all until it's sorted otherwise you'll bugger your engine. I'd open the sump up to check a few things. As others have said, check the pickup, usually fine if it's spent it's life on synthetic oil but you can also inspect your oil pump and chain and have a bottom end inspection. If you're handy with tools, this is dead easy to do. You'll need some gasket sealant for the sump too, from dealers or TPS.

Don't be tempted to clean the pick up pipe, just replace it.
