Title says it all really!
I've had my GTD a little over 2 weeks and have covered 1300+miles at want point mileage wise have you guys felt the engine looser enough to realise your full performance and economy gains?
Thanks in advance.

My dad has a huge mileage headstart on me - he is up to 12k miles in his GTD, had his first service at 9.5k miles and hasn't seen any appreciable gains in mpg or performance, it is as it was when new on 1st July. Anyone expecting the GTD to be significantly better on the MPG than it's predecessor is probably going to be disappointed. Expect 45-47mpg on short journeys (less than 15 miles) in the winter, 50-52mpg in the summer, and maybe pushing 58mpg on a long trip in the summer without driving like a nun.
-
I kept mine to 2000 revs for the 1st 1000 miles and then 3000 revs for the next 1000 miles....now I drive it like I stole it when I can. As for the mpg...read the other thread and be disappointed

My Polo didn't start giving better mpg until is passed 20k miles.

When it got some new and less thirsty tyres? Never seen appreciable gains in 7 VW TDIs bought new, apart from the 10% split between summer and winter. Never really kept a single previous VW beyond 29k miles though, I must admit.

Nope, it had the same set of tyres for 51.5k miles and only then it just needed some fronts
I saw a easy 10mpg improvement after then car passed 20k miles since new.

Yes you read right, I was more like 51,600miles approx, two tyres cost £135 fitted.
Paid for just 1 service at £279.00 since new as the rest were done every 10k miles part of the service pack
Road tax = zero
Consistently getting 70-75mpg over 41miles commuting

Cheers for the reply guys, Monkeyhangers variable mpg figures are fine by me as I have a fuel card, I'm more interested if the performance improves with age.
I haven't hammered mine but from day 1 took it to around 4k rpm and in the last week neared the 5k limit half a dozen times seems quick enough but traction is utter rubbish mine spins it wheels into 3rd without too much effort!
Without entering the whole tyre thing as posted elsewhere I've got bridgestones nuff said! Roll on my Michelin replacements, anyone have any idea how many miles the fronts will last on a GTD? My Mk5 GT 170 would do around 20k on its fronts.
-
Well, this all sounds good to me. I've just sold my 2013 Merc A220 back to the dealer over a few issues but the mpg on that car was shocking. Mid to high 30's from a supposedly efficient diesel. I know its not my driving style as my previous TT and Golf GT were both pretty good. Can't wait for my GTD!

My MK5 170 did 21k miles on the fronts down to 3mm, I replaced them at that point because grip was already sh!te and I didn't want to be heading into winter with tyres any worse - they were also Bridgestone Potenzas.
-
Id be surprised if the GTD will get as many miles out of the fronts I'll let you know around august time!
-
My GTD 1400MILES and had it since 24/12/13.... to be fair the car felt more together about ten days ago, it just felt not like a brand new stiff car but more running together in harmony...main dealers had to reinstall the software last week as the dash was bleeping and lights coming on...it seems to be giving me slightly better mpg...I always have it in sport...average around 42mpg....im ok with that, although the courtesy car given to me was the 1.6d 105ps dsg and I ended up doing around 55 miles, didn't put a drop of diesel in when returned as the needle was still showing full.....I think 50mpg + are only achievable in the 105ps model...now way you are going to be in a bright red gtd and driving it where cars are thinking of overtaking you because your just not accelerating.
-
I'm over the 1500 mile mark now and have had a day of M25 cruising in the 50 zone around the south side and the rest at 70mph. I switched to economy mode and "the since start" is reporting 52.8mpg!!

As much as I liked the Polo Bluemotion it was a little mundane and life-less.
I do 41 miles each way to get to work so fancied something more sport with decent sound system..... :)

2014GTI - 82 mile round trip explains a lot in the mpg stakes, you should be exceeding 55miles every winter day and 60 mpg in the summer in a GTD if driven semi-sensibly and DPF regen should be an extremely rare occurrence for you.
-
That rings true with me tbh. Had my 306 for 9 years and 200k, fancy a change so have fully treated myself for the same reasons as you. Thankfully my 120 mile round trip is coming to an end!

Nope... I have a GTi  so currently looking at 40mpg with 2300 miles under its belt
