Title: MK7 Boot...
Post by: Exonian on 20 January 2014, 19:26
I can't find my mk5 and mk6 brochures at home but there's bound to be someone on here who knows!

Is the mk7 boot smaller than the mk6 or bigger?
Having easily (but tightly packed) got three full size suitcases in the mk5 and mk6 on numerous occasions complete with hand luggage (smallish) albeit with the parcel shelf out - there's no darn way I can get the same amount of stuff in the mk7 even with the boot floor on its lower setting.

I've read and heard several times that it is indeed smaller yeah, or at least it's shape isn't as "useable" as the mk6. I haven't noticed myself though.

I think VW claim it is bigger on the volume it can hold with the floor lowered but the depth/width is actually smaller than previous models - a bit of a con really

I epic failed on this. I could fit my guitar case in easily on my civic. Won't fit in the golf at all, the footprint is tiny

It's tiny. I replaced a 10 year old Astra that theoretically had a smaller boot by 10 or 20 litres but I can't get anywhere near as much stuff in the GTI.

From the brochures, "Maximum luggage capacity, litres, VDA measuring method using 200 x 100 x 50mm blocks"

MK5, MK6: 350
MK7: 380

Thanks for the replies (and the detailed info valvebounce)

I wondered why my mk6 boot mat wouldn't anywhere near fit in the boot when I first took delivery. Grrrrrr

That’s what you get for giving more legroom to the rear passengers without really making the car any bigger. The boot does seem more Scirocco-esque than MK5 Golf, smaller footprint but deeper.
