Following on from last year's change of legislation for pre-1960 classics, it sounds like the EU might be wanting to exempt pre-1984 cars.
This would affect Mk1 Golfs and plenty of campervans.
I'm pretty sure though that most owners would still want to MOT their vehicle so that they knew it was safe to be on the road.

Department for Transport (DfT) will then have until April 2018 to decide how to incorporate the directive into UK legislation.
Don't hold your breath then.

thats crazy why would they want old cars on the road that could be death traps !

The assumption is that they'll be in the hands of enthusiasts.
