I would expect it to be close to list price, somebody will snap it up to bypass waiting lists etc

So whilst a R is £3k more than a standard GTI PP, is it fair to say the R will hold it's money better over 3 years, as it'll be rarer?

Generally it should but depends on many factors like mileage etc.
My dealership hasn't even sold 1 Golf R yet.
Even though it's only £3k more the Golf R is aimed at a different market base, some would argue a more niche crowd.
I did consider a Golf R but due to the nature of the car I would have had to add carbon leather and DSG, so £3k more became £6k more and so on...,

At £30k in its basic form, it is competing with a completely different set of peers. The Scirocco R doesn't do much better than the 2.0TSI GT in the used market, but then again it has the achilles heel of only being 2WD, so it doesn't appear to be much better than the remapped GT. GFVs seem to indicate that the R won't hold it's value much better than halfway between a GTI and GTD on a percentage of RRP, and the likelihood of getting less or no discount than can be achieved on a GTI makes it far more expensive to run one over 3 years.

Assuming you can get £3k discount on the GTI, but not the R, and we're talking GFV only after 3 years (it'll be probably a grand more at part ex time if you look after it) then that R will cost you almost £6800 more to buy, but will be worth £2400 more in GFV, so it'll cost you £4400 more to own one over 3 years (not including interest).

The specced price of that car on the configurator is £39,115

Stiggy: Wow! £7k lost in depreciation on the options alone if you pay list price. £39k - That's vanilla Posche Cayman money, I know which one i'd rather be driving.

Hi Lee, when are you expecting the first golf Rs in? I would like to see one in the flesh before ordering?

Oddly for the wife she doesn't  want the same options on a R as a GTI so the difference is about £1.6k, she'd end up taking a hit on the GTI as ideally would want a 40 whereas I think she will be quids in over 5 years with a R and can have 300bhp without resulting to tuning boxes given the ecu encryption so avoids modification insurance

To be honest this could be the first one we see, however when mk6 R launched one just was thrown our way out of the blue.............and went to a happy owner JonnyG quite quickly.
