Title: Removing Bluetooth - coding needed?
Post by: johnboylds on 16 January 2014, 19:00
Hi guys, looking for a bit of help!

I'm looking at moving to a Mk7, and so before trade in I want to remove the RCD510 and Bluetooth from my Mk6 and put the original RCD310 back in.

If I remove the bluetooth will there be any coding needed to tell the car it's no longer there? What would happen if I don't 'decode' it?

Cheers,

John

Not sure what will happen if you don't decode it out. But I am sure its as simple as coding the gateway to turn it off. So that the car doesn't think it should have one.

Cheers AJ - I don't have Vagcom so can't uncode it.

I've suddenly realised though the the simplest thing to do might be to unplug the BT module and see what happens! Not sure why I didn't think of that first!

I fitted an RNS510 in mine and had to have it coded. When I traded it in I removed it and replaced it with an RCD510 and no further coding required.
Don't know if it will be similar to yours but I wouldn't imagine it would need coded.

Unplug the module and remove.

No coding required when I done it

If you don't "de-code" it you'll get an error in the central electrics module for no comms with telephone ecu but it won't really affect anything, you won't get any dash lights or warnings etc.

^Agreed. As going 'down' in system and especially as both RCD's then you shouldn't see any issues at the front-end, just error messages within

Only just seen this as I was going to update the thread. I'll PM you.

I removed the RCD510 and bluetooth at the weekend, no error messages on the dash but I'm not sure if there are any codes being thrown if it was hooked up to diagnostics.

The dashboard seemed so dull without the colour screen!
