Driving along the duel carriageway 3 days ago and big bleep and warning light: DPF issues
Called main dealers and they advise to drive the car for 20 mins on duel carriage way for 20 mins ( mind you I had been driving on the motor and duel carriage way for about 40mins when it came on) 2 days passed and still dpf bleeping. Called main dealers booked car in for tomorrow could take 48 hours to resolve and no courtesy car. Called VW assist they advised that they would send a technician to me at work and then they will be able to supply me with a courtesy car and bill main dealers
Technician came youngish lad, very eager to just get on with it, so he collects the keys from reception. Comes back 5 mins later saying in order for me to resolve the dpf issue you need half a tank of diesel ( I had just under quarter) could I take the car to petrol station advised not possible as in work, he asked for about £25 so he could go get fuel, told him not possible as I would need to give you my card and pin. He told me that I must be doing short journeys, I told him I have had the car since XMAS EVE and I have already done 1400 miles!!!!!!
He then told me that you need at least half a tank of fuel and drive the car for half hour at EXACTLY 2000 revs, told him this was news to me about half tank 200 revs and over the last 2 days I must of done 100 miles to try and resolve the dpf issue and surely that is a workshop job on the runners. He told me he had plugged his diagnostic machine in and their was nothing wrong with the car
then got on to the phone to vw assist and spoke to the lovely lady that told me she would arrange a courtesy car, the technician wanted to speak to the lady and started shouting at her that why are we giving this man a car their nothing wrong with his car I have ran the diagnostics. He then put the phone done and got on his mobile phone to his manager outside the office thinking I could not hear him. He told his manager I was being funny and not cooperating (amongst other unsavory things). So I approached him and told him I could hear every word....he went red and I asked him where you sent to sort my car out or sort me out...no end of apology but I told him to leave the office, kept on apologizing but I was not interested and told him again to leave.
Ten Mins later got a call for VW assist wanted to supply me with a courtesy car for tomorrow.
Left work a couple of hours later, drove 2 miles and it lit up like a Christmas tree:
Engine management light on
Glow plug light flashing
Stop/start error displayed
DPF warning
Airbag light on
And side sensors going berserk ( red warning light when their nothing next to the car)
THE TECHNICIAN!!!!

That is shocking and frankly inept on behalf of the dealership.
Guess complaints into all involved already?
-
yes, my granddads been in hospital over the past week and I have been exhausting my energy on the social workers and occupational therapist, so Im trying to keep my self sane lol I had reported the technicians behavior to VWUK and also told them that no one told me that I need half a tank of fuel otherwise its a waste of journey for technician. Think their technician are on targets for how many fixs, within a certain time with no courtesy cars!!!!
Tomorrow I should have more a clear head and ensure VW don't treat me like this again and to explain what is happening to my car,,,

Well hang in there and let us know what happens. It's one of my concerns with a brand new car that it will be let down by dealerships and the service department.
I had a Volvo 80 that went in 3 times to a main dealer under warranty to get some led lights replaced. And that was after having to convince them they were LEDs and not bulbs...
Also all the best for your grandad.

All the best for your grandad mate. Trip to the service manager for you, demand an apology. They'll probably give you some free rubber floor mats.. lol
-
Mate all the best with the your grandad. Can't be easy. Like you say clear head and try and resolve not easy when there are dippy ppl involved. If nothing is sorted surely you can start the process to reject the car on the basis that there is a fault.
Hope it all works out.

Just out of interest which dealership would this be?
-
A very unsettling and frankly poorly handled situation by VW assist. They really need to pull out the stops and get this sorted asap as its already generating bad publicity. Well done to you for writing all this down and sharing - and best wishes to your Grandad for a speedy recovery too.

Get photo's of the dash as you see it with the faults, call VW assistance and tell them exactly what you've told us and tell them you want to make a complaint about the technicians attitude, tell them the car needs to go to the workshop and you'll need a courtesy car as yours is not fit for purpose especially with your current situation.

So technician was from VW Roadside Assistance and not the dealership?
-
That's not good mate - where are you (I know it says midlands)
If I were you, I would run it into somewhere like Parkway in Derby, they have always been right with me.
If your kicking around my neck of the woods, I can read the ECU errors for you - then go armed with the faults.

Thanks a million guys for grandads wishes.
VW assist sent technician as Parkway VW Pridepark did not have a courtesy car avaiable until Feb.
VW assist can only supply a car if they send a technician out to the vehicle, and they will bill the main dealers for the car.
Car has been collected by Parkway vw, 4 hours later get a call and most of the issues have been resolved. They want me to spend 30 mins with there in house technician for me/ him to get a better understanding of the car. Parkway VW have been very impressive so far ( possibly get a few extra courtesy cars on fleet)
Asked why all these errors came up and off the record the only thing that they mentioned was the road side pricknician but no proof.
I live in Derby, who lives in and around derby???
