Title: another new guy!
Post by: mikegti77 on 16 January 2014, 12:10
Hi,

Another new guy here, I've actually had my mk6 GTI for 6 months, always wanted one, been larking around the forum for a while and thought it was time to join and say hi!  Torando red, 5 door, totally standard with 17" alloys which I actually prefer over the 18's.  Previous car was 2009 120d m sport - ride much better in golf.

Great forum, full helpful info, though I must admit slightly worried about the timing tensioner situation as mine a 59 plate with 51k, still has 6 months approved main dealer warranty so will look at extending that or replacing tensioner in 6 months.  THE reason I sold the BM was because I had the infamous timing rattle and was quoted silly money to put right, looks like I've not quite escaped timing chain problems - doh!

anyway, hello :)

You should write to the dealer and VW regarding your concerns for the fault given the age of the car and remaining warranty.

Loads of info available here :

Oh Dear! - I just had my 09 Gti engine replaced 'timing chain fault' and have ordered a 120d M Sport coming in March. Hope I am not jinxed with these timing problems with the new one!!!
