I don't think this question has been posed before, apologies if it has.
With Dynamic Chassis Control I quite often drive around in Comfort because the ride is nice and smooth. When I put it into sport the shocks magnetize and produce a nice stiff ride, suitable sporty as expected with DCC.
I just wondered if the ride on a non-DCC car remains the same stiffness in Sport/Normal? In which case is the standard car ride the same as Normal on a DCC car?
Sport is very firm and I couldn't imagine driving around with it like that all the time on UK roads, maybe I'm getting old (34)

I don't find the suspension that hard in sport mode. My car practically lives in sport mode purely because the noise is so addictive.
Oh and I'm 37

I can't help with the anwser but I'm finding the same. You're safe with your age, I'm 28 and prefer it in comfort  everything gets switched to sport when it play time

The suspension on a non DCC car will not change whether in normal or sport as it doesn't have adaptive dampers, otherwise DCC would be rendered pointless!
And no, normal setting on a DCC car is not the same as the standard car suspension as even when in normal the sensors are constantly monitoring and adjusting the damping to the road surface.
And FYI your shocks don't "magnatise" as you don't drive an Audi, your shocks stiffen due to an electonically controlled valve opening and closing controlling the passage of hydraulic fluid into/out of the shock cylinder. :nerd:

Fair enough, I was quoting the salesman!

OK so what mode feels most like the standard GTI, that's really my question....

It's probably somewhere between normal and sport but since it's constantly changing it's never the same as any of them. :D

I still can't tell the difference in suspension firmness between Sport & Comfort. If someone changed my DCC to Comfort I wouldn't know, apart from the quieter engine noise.

I can tell the difference when its in sport but I cant really tell any difference between comfort and normal, which I am disappointed with as I specced the DCC mainly for the comfort mode option. wish id got the PP instead now.

I drove to work this morning in normal, there is definitely a difference between that and comfort.
My mum can tell the difference when she's in the car!

There is a difference, but it's not much and I think 'comfort' is stretching it. Not sure I'd spec it again (though it is my own fault for not doing a DCC/non-DCC test drive before ordering).
-
I would agree you really need to be sensitive to notice much of a difference between comfort and other modes.
If I had the choice again I would not spec DCC and add other options instead like Winter and maybe 19" santiagos

Just a bit of feedback from a non-dcc GTI driver.
I simply can't fault the standard set up. It's supple yet stiff enough when driven hard
Compared to my old Scirocco with DCC it's in a different league in terms of ride quality and refinement. For instance even in comfort on my old Scirocco it was still firm compared to the new GTI (non-dcc). The non-dcc GTI is much more supple, soaks up pot holes with ease and there's much less tyre roar from the 18" rubber. Happy bunny!
I don't miss DCC at all on my new GTI (and saved a few quid too).

I completely agree with everything Hawaii has said, also coming from 2 Sciroccos with ACC/DCC (version 1) fitted. The difference between standard ride on the MK7 compared to the MK5 that preceded my 2 Sciroccos is like night and day. Forgiving over the bumps, but also firm and composed in all driving conditions – how they managed to keep the car so firm and yet so comfortable on a fixed system is beyond me when Audi, Mercedes and BMW don’t seem to be able to manage firm on their Sports/lowered suspension without being crashy over less than perfect surfaces.

As much as I enjoy arguing the merits of the DCC setup (which I am very happy with and would spec if again on my next car) we still haven't answered the golden question...
Which DCC mode is the same as the standard car? Sport or Normal?
Do we DCC'ers get an even firmer ride in Sport or is that "Normal" for the non-DCCs?

I have, reply #6.

A couple of you have said the DCC setting affects the engine noise. Is that right? I thought it purely changed the dampers.
Also, does the engine setting in the cars modes change the exhaust noise? Mine sounds the same in every mode I've tried so far...

DCC settings (since this is just suspension) make no difference to engine noise. They are coupled with the settings for Eco/Normal/Sport that non DCC cars have. We just get Comfort on top.
In Sport the engine noise should be noticeable on heavy acceleration. Some people go so far as to say they hate the noise, it's too intrusive.

The GTI in most markets comes with Driver Profile Selection which allows the engine, steering, air con, dynamic lights and one or two other things to be set. If you also spec DCC then damper settings are part of this menu.
