Title: Speedo cluster question
Post by: benday007 on 15 January 2014, 09:11
Hoping someone can help, upon removing my speedo cluster, I damaged the blue PCB ribbon on the back of my cluster, I've found a replacement on eBay with what seems the same part number, has the two connectors one black and one white. I have ce1 electronics with mfa.

My unit is made by MOTOMETER, this one I've found is made by VDO

Will it still work ok?

Thanks

Yes,the Motometer and VDO units are interchangeable. As you have ce1 electrics you should be OK but on ce2 units the Motometer ones became notorious for mfa failure whereas the VDO units were more reliable. I doubt very much if there are any late mk2's still running Motometers. I certainly went down that road.

That's great news, ive already taken a chance and ordered it knowing I could sell it on. Not sure wether to suffer the additional 7k miles on the clock or swop the speedo parts over. I really don't wanna damage the replacement unit!

I'd leave it. 7K isn't going to effect any future value and any problems swopping the speedo aint worth the risk, IMO
