I have finally found my vento front end obviously not in storm grey so a respray will happen.
I have noticed that on the mk3 there is no real place for a cold intake.
I have spoke to my welder and he reckons we could make a intake in the bonnet and weld it up to look proper so i have a proper cold air feed.
i done this on my civic long time ago and it made a different with the amount of cold air getting in and straight into the filter/CDA.

A bit like this but on the correct side.
Just want some opinions im doing this for better cold air intake not for looks.
will be a bit more in depth than just cutting a hole.

A mod I've always quite liked is the addition of a sprinter vent into a wing on the CDI side. Saves looking like a fast and furious throw back
-
Wings are know for rust without diy holes  and as i have to get the bonnet resprayed anyway seems like its a convenient time to make a hole so when its resprayed will look like its meant to be there im not going for a man hole just a slight slit to get some lovely cold air in
Done right i think it could look good definitely don't want to look like a fast and furious throw back :smug:

I will be having a vented bonnet but that is to let the hot air out!
Why not use the hole in the inner wing for a cold air feed?
-
well for the cost having a vented bonnet will cost less than £30 and it needs to be sprayed ,i want smooth air going in. With cold air feeds to many bent pipes for my liking.
Why don't you raise the rear of the bonnet like this for heat to get out also had this done on my civic gives a good look.

this is a chavy car but with the mk3 and a few mods will look good.

Because most of the heat is at the front from the radiator.
Yes I know the exhaust is at the back but you can heat wrap that.
Also if you do put a hole in your bonnet how are you going to keep it cold air only?
You cant run a pipe from that hole to the airbox!
The wheel arch is the only sensible option.
-
i have a cda fitted that sits a lot further back than a standard box so i would be easy to make a pipe so it is cold air only and the cda has a circle entrance hole made for intake pipe just need to make something on bonnet side.
-
Yeah go for it. With your silly stretch, why not get a massive rear spoiler too? It won't look Chav honest, the bonnet scoop will provide loads of air thus helping you gain a good 50bhp, and with all that power the spoiler will help massively with downforce. You're choosing the correct path with this, keep it up and well done.
-
Yeh I suppose your right why would I need a cold air feed warm air should do it thanks for the advice.
-
Dont know why you are wasting your money when it has been proved beyond doubt that the best solution is a standard airbox with K&N panel filter and a cold air feed.
But then nobody listens to good advice!
-
well i dont have a standard box due to previous owner bodging so a cda was next option there not cheap crap filters so i cant see why a cold air feed to a very high rated air filter would be bad??
And it would be direct as im making custom pipes from bonnet to filter.

When it rains you'll get water injection

You didn't see the thread about stretched tyres then Len! It's ok mate, he knows best and everybody else is wrong, even with evidence to prove otherwise. If you have a search btw sh!ttle, you'll find a thread with back to back dyno runs proving it. You probably know that anyway. Are you related to Bellend by any chance?
-
Yep that's me thanks for pointing it out :smug:

Leave it for Subaru's

those cda boxes are pish, seriously restrictive, what size is the inlet?? if you are wanting a proper induction/cold air feed then you need a proper open cone and a heat shield with a cold air feed fed from the front bumper or the wing

http://www.bmcairfilters.com/car-filters/fb154-06_d171_1.aspx
I have this size air filter fitted to my car same as a 156 GTA 3.2V6 i get discount at work and the hole in the bonnet i had this done on my civic and it made a difference but i didn't have a air feed just an open cone filter near the hole and the difference it made was huge.
I am looking for opinions i know every body says standard air box is best but that wasn't tested against every air filter out there so cant really say that it is the best option, all depends on the car itself and what sort of cold air feed and many other factors.
A slit in the bonnet will help the car breath easier at higher speeds as it will force air in. I wont be doing a air tight air feed it will be gapped for the air to flow in the correct direction toward the BMC CDA not directly into it i have been looking at many ideas so i don't flood my engine on a rainy day.
But as i say looking for opinions not just people butting in from other threads pretending they know what there talking about.
I haven't yet seen a thread with the test of a CDA or many other air filter manufacturers against the standard box so yes that test that was done, a standard box was better on that car on that dyno on that day. We all know dyno readings can be different every time.

Unless you've actually spent £190+ on a cda then you won't realise you have just spent a lot of Wonga on something that just makes more noise... on a vr/32 it can be justified. On a 4cyl just cut your airbox up for the same gains
You sound like you like to waste your monies and like to tinker... buy a project mini or something
-
well i only payed £50 for the complete unit.
-

£50 more than you needed to pay to get some noise!
-
well i didn't have an air box so no and your telling me a CDA does nothing and yes maybe so but just as cheap as a 2nd hand decent air box so not really a loss for me apart from more room in my engine bay.

you will get more air being "forced" in with an open cone and cold air feed from the bumper then you will with a hole in the bonnet and a cda with a really small inlet, unless of course you are going to be adding a massive scoop to direct the air into the hole, the difference between the surface area that the engine can breath through is quite big
-
of course you want to look like a boy racer - bonnet scoops belong in Tesco car parks
