Title: Launch Control
Post by: Mr Savage on 14 January 2014, 12:44
Anyone with DSG used launch control yet? I don't think it would even be possible with the awful Bridgestone tyres on the car.

I know it used to void your warranty but I believe it doesn't anymore? Does it cause any excessive stress on your clutch or likely to cause anything to fail?

I know with the older single clutch automated manuals it could only last about 3 launch starts (as was the case on the E46 M3 SMG) but these new DSGs are much more reliable than that. I've heard they could do it all day long but not sure I'd want to use it at each set of lights! ()

Don't think id voids the warranty though?

Yeah I've heard the same too. I think a while ago it voided the warranty if you used it over 5 times or something. No idea how they found out, suppose it records it in the ECU?

I doubt it voids anything as an explanation on how to do it can be found in the handbook on page 185:

- switch off TCS
- left foot on brake
- select S or Sport Mode
- right foot on the gas to 3,200 RPM
- left left foot off brake and floor the right foot

Haven't tried it yet.

It won't void the warranty as it explains, in detail, how to perform one in the manual.

I'll wait until we have some decent dry weather before I try it. If its not completely dry I suspect the front wheels will spin like crazy.
