Title: Current lead time for a new GTI?
Post by: V5Ade on 14 January 2014, 09:53
Hi Guys,
I've been told that there is a 6 month waiting list for new factory order GTI's. Is this correct?
It seems like a pretty long time for a Golf...

I ordered mine on 28th October and it will be ready for collection 1st March... Seems to be about right. Quite a high demand for them!

Ordered mine on the 1st of November. Delivered to dealer on the 9th of January. I'm going to be abroad for my planned March pickup so have to wait til the end of March. Gutted!
I think it might depend on dealer allocation, cancelled orders and in some cases optional extras can affect the lead time

Well I was told (at the beginning of November 2013), that I should expect it to be a minimum of 6 months and maybe 8 months - but mine is being made this week for March 1st delivery ..... so that's 15 weeks!

Haha, similar here. I was told 4 to 6 months, so I ordered in November for a March delivery. It seems to be hit or miss!

Ordered my GTD 04/11/13 - it's at the dealers already. I had the same 6 month lead time story.

Looks like they're playing safe with leads times! I was provisionally given BW4 when I ordered, but had a call telling me it was built BW48!

Hello everybody,

I'm new to this forum but would just like to comment that according to the German auto website Automobilewoche.de, VW had to put on an extra 5 shifts during December to try to catch up with demand for the MK VII Golf.
For the whole of 2013, they had to put on 40 extra shifts mostly over the weekends. The Christmas break was given over to factory "renovations" that were supposed to have taken place during the summer.
I ordered a GTI first week in December and have been given BW4 for delivery end of February.

I have to say I am astonished to read all this news of speedy deliveries. I ordered first week November and not even been scheduled yet! Having said that I don't want it until well in to March.

Maybe the DSG box and wanting 3-door (and RHD of course) that is making it take longer?

Shouldn't be your options? I had DSG too.

Mine is also 3-Door, DSG and RHD with a good few other options (Rev. Camera, DNS Nav, DCC, Winter, Keyless) and I was very surprised that it had jumped 6-7 weeks forward from prov. build to actual build. Who knows, maybe I was lucky with a cancellation slot...

Maybe not - seems that most people getting their cars early are GTI owners, maybe it's still slow on the GTD front.

Seems the GTD builds are slower.
I ordered mine on the 7th October and am confirmed for BW05.

Did a deal on a stock GTD on 3rd January, collected 11th January. Got colour and spec. required (almost). Dealer had been shopping around for me for a few weeks, came up with another 2 options but not to my taste. Was NEVER going to wait for a factory order.
Brilliant service, Oxford Iffley Road - Ridgeway Group. Chris did a good job

I've just been told my car is going to be BW7, a lot earlier than June! That means I could get the car in March. This is going to wind my wife up as she's had an Evoque on order since November and her car isn't due to be built until 20th March :D

Have to be honest here. For a LONG time I was very much wanting an Evoque. But I am soooooo pleased I changed my mind and went for the VW Golf GTi. I have a hunch your wife will fall in love with yours and not be quite so impressed with hers when it finally arrives. AND they are REALLY common these days. It might be better in the snow, but how often does it snow??? Plus it ain't got the performance!!!!

It could be that your dealer did not have any allocation left to order at the time they took your money. I would be having a word with them if you have not been given a glimmer of hope by now

To be honest, she bullied me into buying the GTI. Maybe she wanted both!
