Hi I've got a vw golf mk4 1.4e. Basically going to work each day is about 10 miles. Problem is it's stop start and a lot of sitting still for a while. I'm only getting 250-270 miles from a tank when I Beleive I should be getting twice that? Need help as to what's causing it to use so much and how to solve this problem?
Thanks Liam.

To be honest, the book figures suggest 31mpg as a figure for urban driving, 270 miles to a tank isn't a million miles away from that figure.

I was gonna say that's ok for stop start driving

+1 on above.
mate used to have a 1.4, got just below 300 per tank i believe. 200 if he was ragging it, which most of the time he was because it was so gutless

bloody hell my 1.8t hits around 380 miles but then again my driving is mixed.

You must drive with a light right foot, the most I ever see is 330 miles and that is solid motorway driving.

That cannot be right.. as i get about 300 out of a tank on my 4mo.. with just a 5 mile town journey to work and back.. and most time sitting in traffic.

330 miles home from r-tech in just over half a tank

For a small engine working hard that sounds about right
