Hi Guys,
I suppose i best say.. Hello! again.
Iv been a member on here for 8 years, but the last 5 or so I have dabbled in a Civic type R and few other eco boxes and my steed for the last 30 months has been a 3.0 TDI A5 Quattro... so i didnt go too far wrong.
Anyway. Im about to pull the trigger on a brand new R. there are some build slots in March so iv been promised an april delivery if I can get the order in this week.
The R is the first car iv seen in a while where it was just "I want one", shame I cant get a test drive but I have driven a 62plate DSG GTI and loved it (if a bit low on spec)
Anyway this is my first car on lease, I'm going down the fully maintained route as after some serious number crunching the money the audi has cost me it just makes sense at the moment.
I'm looking for some input from other MK7 owners about what spec you would add.. some things are stupid like the full top end NAV adding £70 a month to the cost!
If I love it as much as I think im going to my plan is to buy it of the leasing company after the 2 years, if not ill hand it back.
Current Spec
2.0T DSG , 3door
Lipaz Blue
Winter Pack (300)
Basic Nav (750)
Reversing Camera (160)
Im seriously thinking about knocking the NAV on the head and getting DRC (820).. At the end of the day in car audio is quite easily added whereas DRC isnt.
the standard HU is "Composition Media" .. how does this sound ? and how well does it interface with Iphone / Android in the real world ?
Id really like to just put my ipod in the glove box as i do in my A5 now and then have telephone via bluetooth but im guessing there is no way to mirror a phone screen to this unit for NAV?
Cheers Guys

Why not just buy it on PCP rather than HP if your going to buy it at the end?
I would pick DCC over Navigation every time, will you need navigation on a daily basis to justify the cost?
I wouldn't bother ordering until DynAudio a option is available, I think it's definitely worth waiting for, it's plain nuts for VW to leave this option off the list - personal choice.

I did notice that, You can get an Amp / Sub upgrade for £500 that goes in the spare wheel well but no speaker upgrade. I like my music; I know im going to be disapointed after the B/O setup in my current car but the reason for changing is to get something more exciting to drive.
I can live without NAV so I think im going to spend my option money on DRC.... Well with all inclusive tyres id be silly not too.

Sorry - whats DRC?

I have Dynaudio on mine and personally I'm not that impressed, go for nav though, always usefull
-
I would go for Dynaudio and Nav Pro myself. overall it makes a world of difference to the spec of the car, and when the wife is not in the car a lot of fun. But then I do like my gadgets. So far as manufacturer fitted in car entertainment goes, Dynaudio is well loud and crystal clear. I personally would not be without it. But I suppose it depends on the genre of music you listen to.
It's a shame it is not on the options to configure for the Golf R until later on in the year.
Other options I would configure would include the usual Reversing Camera, (use it a lot in conjunction with mirrors to double check behind the car, also impresses people the most when it flips out the boot badge), DCC on the Golf R would make sense if you want the Race driving mode just to say you have it and rear side airbags.
The Plug & Play Sub and speaker setup sounds like a slightly watered down version of the Dynaudio so this would do fine in lieu of Dynaudio.

I have the Composition Media in my car and so far it's been perfect. The sound is good but I am not an audiophile but I do enjoy my music. You can connect your iPod in a cubby hole in front of the gear stick and control the iPod on the head unit. You can also use a SD card in the cubby hole for your music. The bluetooth integration is good I have an iPhone and the contact all are imported the only thing it does not do versus some other phones is allow the contact's picture to show. Unfortunately no you cant mirror the phone screen to the head unit out of the box but their are some solutions coming along - http://indiwork.co.kr/cart/ it's in Korean.

iPhone mirroring would be lovely, just for my TomTom

I too am looking at an r on lease, what figures have you been given and who from?

Hi Mojo,
sorry for the late reply.. I have now pulled the trigger. I must be mad buying a car iv not driven...
I did look at leather and nav, but £90 a month more didn't seem worth it so i have gone for the below spec
Quoted May delivery! I dont think I can wait that long... I havent checked out the small print on the tyres in the fully maintained package :-)
The box looks good. Im guessing we the composition media will have a way of getting a aux feed into it.

I've just ordered my R, I was toying with the idea of sat nav, but decided against it I've got sat nav on my iphone, so it seemed a lot of money to waste on something I've already got.
I have heard you can show pictures from your iphone on the screen of the CMS, can anyone confirm this?
Also, If I use the satnav on my phone, will it play through the speakers in the car if it is plugged in? Also, will spotify work?
I added leather in the end because the bloody interior colour issues! I didn't really want leather, but I can't stand that two tone interior.
-
yeah, I looked at just leather but had already ordered before I found out about the 2 tone debarcle.
Basically 2 years of just add fuel. Im going to enjoy it!!!
Glad to be back to the Golf Flock, Not had a MK5 or a MK6 but a number of Mk3s and Mk4s

I have the standard CMS and find that the sat nav voice doesn't play through the car speakers unless I'm in a call. Which is annoying. I end up setting the audio for sat nav to play through the iphone but it's an option I have to set everytime (using TomTom). I had a Ford Mondeo for a while last year and it functioned exactly the same.
