Title: Which RNS510 firmware and Maps? How to Install?

Hi I have RNS 510 fitted in my Golf Mk6, I am from the UK and would like the latest maps installed, which software for the maps and the rns do i need to install? I cannot get into the setup menu but have vagcom and got this. please help!

V10 is the latest firmware. download, burn to DVD and stick it in the unit. job done.

you won't get the full 7 digit postcode facility with the software your running on your b unit. you need to upgrade your firmware first and then put v10 maps on as you need at least 27xx firmware.

Thanks guys, I managed to download the 8048 Map update and just waiting for some Dual Layer DVDs to come through the post so I can burn it onto that. Is that straight forward update?
Also mcmaddy you mention I will need latest 27xx firmware? what firmware should I be looking at? I've been reading through GPSUnderground forums but that forum is way too congested with no organization to the posts at all. Ive downloaded FW 5238, wanting to know is that ok?

And I do have the Genuine Ross Tech Vagcom cable so I could use that if needs be (but what for?) and I'm not sure I have the radio code? Will I need that?

I must have sufficient firmware then.I only updated to V10 last week.First attempt,disc got stuck in displaying load DVD disc.Only managed to get it out by taking fuse out and reinstating it.Tried to load it again,took about an hour this time successful.Now have updated maps and 6 digit postcode.

yes find out what firmware you have by holding down the setup button or via vagcom. the firmware is easy to update by burning the iso onto a cd/dvd and install the same way you installed the maps

the question is which firmware?

Tried holding settings button but all I see is FM/AM no other options > I know that mine came with a VW Nav disk v6.1

My vehicle registered March 2010 so unsure what series it is or what firmware.  Can I just update to the latest firmware or do you have to do in increments? btw what is the latest firmware version?

secret menu isn't enabled until VW 3810 I think it was. if your running old firmware then your better and safer incrementally updating your fw versions rather than just going straight to 5238. you will also lose all info on your hard drive as the updates split it into 3 partitions. do your map updates last and then recode the RNS.

Just spoken to my local dealer, they will provide an update (only V9 at the moment, but expect V10 shortly) for £56. Will get them to do it when it has its service in March.
