Title: Windows scrape when going up and down - Help?
Post by: RocketRossUK on 07 January 2014, 15:25
Hey guys, had this small problem for a while. Both windows when going up and down scrape a little bit like it grinding again dirt.

I have fully put them down and tried using a clean wheel brush (bristly type) down between the rubber seals and moving about to try free any dirt bit its still doing it.

Any idea how to stop this or idea on how to clean properly. Wasn't too sure about putting warm soapy water down there, dont want to short any electrics, even though i think rain can get down.....

Any help fellas?

You could try blowing some compressed air down between the seals, the aerosol type with a straw attachment.

Spoke to the guys at crosshill seen as my car is already in. They said they will give it a good blast with air line, hopefully that will dislodge something.

The outer scrapers can be removed quite easily. With a suitable plastic trim removal tool, just lever them upwards starting at one end, taking care not to bend them. I can't remember if you need to remove the mirror as well, but that's just a case of unclipping the inner trim with the tweeter on to access the fixing screws. You may need another pair of hands to hold it, as you can't remove the mirror completely without removing the door card and unplugging the wire.

Re-fitting is just a case of tapping it back into place. I used a cloth and a nylon headed hammer when I last did one.

Mine also does this but not every time

And mine likes to play games when i try and fully close my drivers side window by lowering it back down 3 inches

Just fixed mine today with a compressed air can. Stopped the window just before i hear the noise and sprayed in through the seals for a few seconds, no more scrapeing :)
