Alright guys I have buggerd my engine in my golf mk4 gti 1.8t looking at getting a new engine to go in but there are so many more agu engines out there that are better and low millage than aum? Can I put either in and not have to worry about changing ecu.....etc?
-
personally i would replace it with another AUM you will have less work to do.
Im sure it is possible to put an AGU in, but the AUM has a fly by wire throttle and the AGU are a drive by wire.
If you changed the engine to an AGU you would have to change your ECU.
It depends what you are looking to do, many people say the AGU is better to get big power out of, but if you are simply trying to just replace the engine and keep it standard why create yourself more work
Thats my opinion anyways!
Where you based i know somebody who has 3 aum / auq engines.

I think the bottom ends are interchangeable so you'd be safe there, you'd just need the AUM sump for the oil level warning sensor You'll need to fit your AUM head onto the AGU block though
-
Awesome looks like staying with the AUM just easier to get hold of the other aaahh well cheers again guys
-
Probably best to. Just stay away from puddles

Haha indeed ;P

Replacing an AUM with an AGU is simple. These are the parts you'll need to swap...
-All ancillaries (injectors, coils, rocker cover, throttle body, knock sensors etc etc.)
-Swap the vvt unit from the aum into the agu head (very easy)
-Possibly have to swap the sump to the aum one with the level sender (although some agu's came with the sensor)
-Delete the sai system.
That's it.
