Looking for a door controller scan to see if the car unlock/unfolding mirror feature can be replicated on an earlier car please.
Many thanks in advance!
-
no, i would have but i dont have a laptop that will install the software due to admin rights at my new work.
If anyone is around Burton they are more than welcome to scan my car.
-
i've got a VCDS cable - so if there are any Post BW45 cars near by, happy to loan it or pop out with it. (Sussex / Surrey / Hampshire etc)
-
Thanks for the replies chaps - also need a scan done on a pre BW45 car to compare please!
-
Well, if a pre-45 car's what you're after, I'm your man! Providing a couple of tweaks are put in to compensate my time of course
-
I have a VCDS cable :)
-
I will be picking up my BW50 GTD on Wednesday and have VCDS, so if you can wait until Wednesday night I can scan it for you?
-
Very happy to be pateint! Thank you - good luck with the handover
-
Ok picked my car up to day and well happy with it ;-)
Any how can you give me quick step by step info of what you want me to do?
and I will go and do it now
-
Congratulations! Just please do a scan and paste up the door controller results.
Thank you!

Came across this when browsing the ross tech site..

Is this the scan we're talking about? (haven't got my VCDS yet!)
-
Is this any good?

It looks pretty good, but not sure how we approach decoding what you have provided? Any idea Mark?
I thought we needed some sort of door controller module? My VCDS will arrive tomorrow so can investigate the Pre-BW45 at least!
Edit.
Just had a quick look on the VCDS manual. JMC, when doing the scan, did it give results for controllers 42 and 52? These are apparently the driver/ passenger door electrics controllers. I wonder if this is where we need to look?
Good effort!

when i get home tonight i can post a quick screenshot guide on how to get to the screen (If someone's not got there before me)

-
ahhh that looks good!
Very good indeed!
Having had a quick offline poke around VCDS, am I right in saying that there aren't any labels for the 42/52 door controllers? I can find the 5Q09 label for the central electrics module but no such luck for the doors.
-
This is all good stuff - a step closer to figuring this out...
I'm wondering if (assuming the coding is different on the door modules post BW45) that the new code can be simply substituted for the old one?
-
when doing the scan, did it give results for controllers 42 and 52? These are apparently the driver/ passenger door electrics controllers. I wonder if this is where we need to look?
These are definately the components that control the door mirror functions - I know from the many posts in the Scirocco forums about substituting folding mirros for non folding ones - the last part of the job is to change the codes in those two controllers....
-
just finding my cable.... back in a bit!

No pressure...

Could it be something in Adaption that is changed?
-
Hmm...
I don't think it could be hardware change...could it? Wonder whether there is a change in the central electrics module, as surely it's that module that just sends the signal to the mirrors to unfold? I see that the coding on the subsystem is slightly different - but these are the window motor controllers!

Could you get a scan of your central electrics and compare with JMC's? Least we have labels for that module..
-
coding's the same therefore it's hardware. door controllers by the look of it so a quick vcds mod this isn't.
-
Could be a difference in the hardware revisions - A to B which means it wouldn't be a VCDS fix?
-
Yes it does after all seem to be the case that its a hardware upgrade on the controllers (but with the same mirror units presumably).
-
I reuse to accept it's hardware..
Surely the controller just drives the mirror motor when requested? Albeit when the ignition is on or when the remote fob is pressed? That is of course unless it doesn't get any power until ignition? Hard to believe me thinks.
-
This is not definitive but the controllers in the two cars have different part numbers and everything else is the same. I guess thats the puzzling thing - I am surprised the coding is the same....
-
Is there any coding in central electrics which is yet to be labeled in the VCDS that we can cross-check to see if an alternate setup is in the newer model? I remember Andrew (Sootchucker) finding some interesting entries about mirrors in there. Might be worth checking.
Getting cable tomorrow, so there goes my weekend!

Out of interest, what build week is your car, how close to BW45 were you? I'm wondering whether the hardware was changed out of normal practice and this isn't actually related to the unfolding of mirrors?
Clutching at straws??
-
Hard to tell as it was a lease company car, already in stock.
Now the "in stock" adverts appeared on the lease website in late sept 2013. (Picked up on 29 nov)
So unfortunately i have no way of knowing :|
-
Fair enough.
Getting my cable through today so going to have a quick check when I can for which rev of the door controller hardware I've ended up with...
-
I'll post my full scan tonight, i think the best bet is to compare against that as mine is stock with no optional extras, so people with their post BW45's and extras can determine all the differences, part numbers etc :)
-
My door controllers are the same as yours:

Going to go through adaptation in central electrics and translate some entries, got to be there somewhere. Can the adaption channels be 'scanned' like the long code for modules?
Got my cable though and managed to get the beep on lock/unlock and retention of heated seats done in my lunch hour today..very chuffed. Surprised the menu item for "acoustic feedback" doesn't specify lock or unlock, can only set both or neither, which is fine.
-
hehe think i screwed up with that bit...
Set the foggies as the lights fine, and then set the shirp on lock only, it does however seem to have disabled the coming home lights whilst doing it... doh!

How do you mean disabled the coming home lights? Is it enabled in the MFD? Does it work when flashing the main beam? Going to do foggies next I think. I assume they just turn off after either the leaving home timer expires, or ignition is turned on?

Jason
Jason, would you be able to assist me in checking central electrics adaptation channel values for pre and post BW45 cars? I came across this guide:
http://www.audienthusiasts.com/Article_VCDSAdaptationMap.html (http://www.audienthusiasts.com/Article_VCDSAdaptationMap.html)
which is a bit clearer and more suited to what we need to do than the Ross-Tech version:
http://www.ross-tech.com/vcds/tour/controller-channels-map.html (http://www.ross-tech.com/vcds/tour/controller-channels-map.html)
...which is very similar apart from the CSV/ adaptation selection.
If we can compare the mirror fold related channels and see if there't any obvious discrepancies, we could be on to a winner hopefully.
I'll do my pre-45 tonight.
-
Will do when I get home tonight

They used to just come on! (Not tested the flashy lighty thingy! - will try that shortly :) )

Not on the Mk6 or 7 as far as I'm aware, you have to flash your main beams to activate it! You can enable it to come on automatically with VCDS, should be in the main thread..
-
Yup aware of that (What i did originally) - so i disabled it by accident :P hehe

Having had a quick look, the only Mirror related channel setting I can find thats different is this one:
(34)-Access control 2-Profilfunktion f¸r Anklappung der Auflenspiegel
with rough, incomplete, translation is:
(34) Access control 2 - profile function for the outside mirrors folding in
All other appear the same (in the Access Control section)
Anyone brave enough to change it and see?! :undecided:

might need to cycle an engine start up a lock and an unlock etc for it to work. you did exit the controller from vcds didn't you??

lol yes! :P
And did that, full off, full back on, engine up, and did it 2 more times to make sure :)

And did that, full off, full back on, engine up, and did it 2 more times to make sure :)
Good effort though! I assume the fold on lock still operates?
-
unless we can get a full German translation of the titles then I still think this is a hardware change of the mirror or door controllers.
-
yup fold on lock, and unfold on engine...
Any other "Außenspiegel"'s in there? (Takes a while to search through for a random german word :)
-
ich spreche eine bissien deutsch, however... most of these are technical terms...
Außenspiegel = Wing Mirror though :)
-
Maybe some undocumented adaptation channels in the Door controllers?
edit: I can do an adaptation channel map of the 42/52 controllers to compare with a post-BW45 car for any clues? My car's being detailed at the mo so won't be able to get this until later on this evening..
-
nope, very little in there, hunting some of the others.
Interistingly in the engine area... you can stop those pesky regens hehehe...
(Obviously i strongly advise against this :P )

Are there any channels at all that can be changed? Very annoying not being able to go and check myself!

Not to worry (although that would have been a good laugh!), I have the car back now, looking very good I must say, but having had a couple of beers I daren't use VCDS under the influence!
More investigations tomorrow...
-
sounds good, i'm free most of the day too, so will have a tinker :)
Ended up using the nice weather day today to wash the car :)

oooo number 24 looks interesting... however, have these not already been compared>?
-
Have you tried activating (23) and (24)? Sometimes oin the adaptation channels it will say 'not available' but if it allows the activation it looks like they might do the trick?
-
no, only did 34. going out in a sec, so will give those 2 a go :)
-
I'm loving the cooperation and the working together attitude on here, what happens when he flicks it into reverse and the mirror explodes? Hehe.
What would really and is a definitive list of working code modifications on the VCDS thread so newbies can keep track :)
-
I agree 2014GTI, there is a great community on here and the thread would be beneficial to all..
-
Agreed entirely!
Would need to be laid out carefully (As BW may be a factor, along with some others, and part model numbers etc :)
Will let you know how i get on, and if i still have wing mirrors!
-
Yesterday I compared Jasons adaption list with mine, and there was no differences regarding to the mirrors. I think it migth be something in the long coding of cent. Elec.
I will try figuring something out this evening.
Just to be sure, has Jason confirmed that his mirrors are folding out on unlock?
-
@noobmonkey
Could you share your Cent. Elec. long coding?
That could help me pointing out the bit for unfolding mirrors.
-
Yesterday I compared Jasons adaption list with mine, and there was no differences regarding to the mirrors. I think it migth be something in the long coding of cent. Elec.
I will try figuring something out this evening.
Just to be sure, has Jason confirmed that his mirrors are folding out on unlock?
Yes they are :smug:

Ok... that didn't work, stopped them closing on lock, lol! (edit - reversed and working fine again!)

The only difference between yours and Jasons is the last A. Both you and I have that A, but Jason got 00 in that byte.
Have you tried changing this?

Then I guess it's not that, which makes the difference.
I really wouldn't know what else to look for.
I would like Jason to confirm his car to unfold on unlocking.
-
If you need me to do any thing else just fire away as I'm home now, and yes my mirrors unfold on unlocking

i think we are in the right area, but i suppose i need to learn how to do a full extract of everything, + all long codings and then compare.... must be visible (If we can do that?)
Can you confirm your long coding screens look like mine for starters? :)

The long coding is extracted when doing an autoscan, it will be listed under the individual controller, whereas the channel mapping can be collected by using the Controller Channel Map tool in the Applications section of VCDS.
I compared the channels on the Central Electrics and nothing jumped out apart from the one previously mentioned. Might be worth checking the adaptation channels in the door controllers (42/52), apart from that, I'm struggling to see where else this can be done!
-
I'm loving the cooperation and the working together attitude on here, what happens when he flicks it into reverse and the mirror explodes? Hehe.
What would really and is a definitive list of working code modifications on the VCDS thread so newbies can keep track :)
For info, I'm working on collating this on a dedicated site. It's a bit rough around the edges as I've not had too much time to work on the aesthetics, but the raw info is there for anyone interested.

It was reported on another forum that someone posting on BRISKODA.NET has solved this mirror unfolding on unlock problems - they did not post a link though....

Ooooooooooo! That was an interesting post.... pushed me to their forums, and onto another page! ...

(List on left once loaded)
Disable or adjust the volume of the Körperschallaktuators
In the VW Golf 7 and verbautem Soundaktuator you have the option to reduce its volume accordingly, you should use a creak or humming in the center area of the instrument cluster perceive, or to disable it altogether.
The following coding is used:
Select STG A9 (Körperschallaktuator)
STG adjustment -> function 10
Select a channel volume of the actuator for impact sound
Value corresponding to customize default value: 100% In adjustment to 0, the sound amplifier is completely disabled
tonnes of others in there too, none that we in this thread are trying to find... but interesting :)

Different hardware completely!?

Just for info, breaking down the different parts (using my hardware) this is what i see:
01 - He has Kessy (I don't)
1E - He has an Automatic (I have a manual)
46 - He has heated Front Seats (i don't)
01 - He has a 3 door (no Powered Rear Windows) - I have 5 door, powered windows
24 - He has 3 door - i have 5 door
1C - He has heated front washer Jets (I don't)
18 - He has ESCL Electric Steering Lock Installed (i Don't) - no idea what that is?
So in short... the difference aint in 09 Electric peeps...... (But damn the cars options don't make this easy!) - also... the HW model might have further invisible options with my HW.... therefore... it could still be here, doubt it tho.
Thank you hugely for posting though.

i'm doing a channel map / export as i type. Could someone mail me a link or email me their csv export (09 - adaptation). I'ma gonna go back over what has already be done, but nothing wrong being thorough :)
(Pm me to swap details) - hopefully that'll avoid some spammeryness and bots :P

I believe the long coding was the same, but we haven't yet had a controller channel map for the door controllers compared. Difficult to know what's what though as there are no VCDS labels for the door controller adaptation channels. Still could be worthwhile comparing them!

Yup...
go into applications, (Urgh, not near my car)
Controller channel Map
Then controller address = 09
login code = 31347
function = adaptation
Output = csv
And click Go.
Be prepared - this will take 10 - 20 minutes!! :)

Also... thank you! Keep forgetting to say that. Really loving the camaraderie and the willingness to help all for the greater good :) - even if just a silly non-important thing (Such as electric windows lol)
But thank you anyways :)

Here is a dropbox link to my XLS (Excel) download of:

3) Googles failed, but funny attempts of translating 1 :)

Can't beat a bit of geekiness! What we need next is a post 45 car with folding on unlock to complete the controller map of both controllers 42 and 52 for us to compare. For the purpose of the mirror folding I think this is out last bet, long coding in central electrics 09 seems a wild goose chase!
Not hopeful for this thread's resolution!
-
The central electrics coding is a mine field with so many different specs. My car has some options not available in the uk eg: Lane and dynamic light assist.
I can do an adaption map of any controller you want. Just pm me your email and what modules you want done.

lol.. was going through the extract i had, and wondered what the 2 locations were!

ohhhh degree's not locations lol :P - was entertaining though!

Thanks JMC!
Right the below table is a comparison of cent (09) adaptation.
There was about 15/20 lines that i did not have on mine, so had to remove to compare (will look at those later. Hardware related maybe?).
The table attached, shows all lines where results are different - side by side:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/77845919/CarVCDS/cent-elec%20spreadsheet%2009%20V2%20COmapre%20JMC.xlsx (https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/77845919/CarVCDS/cent-elec%20spreadsheet%2009%20V2%20COmapre%20JMC.xlsx)
-
So in my humble opinion, looking through those.
Ignoring hardware related or non shown options etc...
None of those are related.
So now that is long coding and adaption ruled out from being the source (on 09 Cent Elect ONLY).
Any other opinions? :) - happy to take all feedback! :)
-
Again, I'd say we need to repeat (long code and channel map) comparison on controllers 42 and 52, the door controllers..
-
Agreed :)
JMC is sending through both parts of those now :)
(Talking of which i need to go and scan them... so might do this tomorrow :|)
-
Again, I'd say we need to repeat (long code and channel map) comparison on controllers 42 and 52, the door controllers..
And apologies, yup agree, but just wanted to categorically remove the possibility. (And for that i needed to see the comparisons...) :)
Next up, probably tomorrow, the comparisons on 42, & 52....
I'm sure we've checked long codes, but will check them too :) - and will do the adaptation comparison.

Don't be daft, apologies not required! I know it's always good to see these things first hand, I know that's what I'd want to do (and did!)!
Will get my scan tomorrow also, just to throw in the mix, and see what we come up with. Going to struggle without labels but what's the worst that can happen tweaking the odd door controller channel? The windows go down when you lock the car?!
-
Hehe, true... but whittling them down to possibles, we can then review the options (by that i assume you mean labels?) ... Or do you mean a correct translation?
I have a feeling typing them all out will kill me, and my brain :)
I'm shocked as to how much that is changeable, from how much the lights turn, stay on (static/dynamic cornering etc...)
To how sensitive things are, how quickly interior lights come on.
Not knowing limitations is just evil and teasing though ;) hehehe

Just sent you the adaption maps and a full vcds scan Greg
-
Awesome!!! :) - gonna be some geeky spreadsheeting tomorrow night!
Assuming they both took a good 20 mins or so each? :| eeeeeeeeek!

Maybe mine stopped short. I'll re-do it tomorrow.
(4) Comfort illumination-Coming home Lights
I changed this. It changes coming lights to auto on so you dont have to pull the headlight stalk. I must post it in the vcds thread
