Title: DIY turbo inlet pipe
Post by: Dave_IOW on 05 January 2014, 22:03
Has anybody got a picture of an inlet pipe they have made themselves, alloy bends, silicone joiners etc?

1.8t in my mk2 bay with silicone TIP at the min but is hindered by my inter cooler pipework.

Obviously after seeing the gain to be had from oversized TIPs, I could have a silicone reducer straight off turbo, compressor inlet sized, straight up to say 80mm, if they make such thing, then have an alloy 90degree bend, then connect part of my existing silicone TIP up to the alloy bend to get the n75/dv ports.

This would make my life a lot easier and maybe help the turbo spool, not having a 90 silicone bend right next to turbo?

Enough talk, let's see some pics if you understand my description :afro:

First part is going to be to find such a drastic silicone reducer, 80mm > 45mm...

that is a drastic reducer size have you had any luck on e-bay? i found a place in yorkshire who do a variety of reducers etc not sure of the company now tho, have you a build thread for this too? be an interesting read :afro:

But no, they all seem relatively subtle differences on eBay.

Badger5 TIPs must have this sized variation on though, they strap onto k03s compressor and increase to an 80mm bore, been done, must be out there somewhere

Don't really fancy paying that much to butcher one though! The whole idea will be to lengthen the distance between the 90degree bend from compressor housing to aide with IC pipework, so just buying one of them really isn't an option  :undecided:

Like northeast Gti said there is a place in Yorkshire that can make you one up.... I'm sure it's in Doncaster and they can make you any size pipe you want

Dave the V2 uses something like this...

Which I may be able to get knocked up on the lathe at work. If we work out some sizes and draw it out I can have a word if you want

Looks good that mate, would save having to get the reducer in silicone.

How would you attach it to compressor inlet?

whats the chances you could make a batch? been looking for something similar and that looks like very nice work!

That's not mine but it's doable at work, just depends how busy the guys are. I'll get some dimensions if I can find a K03s and see what they can do

Doesn't the v2 just use a tight fit and a grub screw?

Look forward to seeing what you come up with dude, flow should be good and will have the benefit of kit being able to collapse under vacuume

Didn't know about the grub screw but makes sense

Grub screw sounds fairly good idea, want me to stick a vernier over 3s inlet on Thursday mate and get you a definitive measurement?

I'll need a few measurements, I'll give you a text :afro:

Very much like that Chris, but with a silicone reducer straight off the turbo, then an alloy bend I'm thinking to meet up with top part of a silicone TIP I have.

Where's your DV and N75 port?
Title: Re: DIY turbo inlet pipe

Dump valve is that pipe off the middle of the pipe.

No N75 port as the spare port is venting to atmosphere.

Depending on turbo, there isnt much space near the linkages....hence I had to do a 2 step reduction from 45-63mm then 63-76mm

My linkages are probably in a slightly different positioning to yours, mines in a mk2 shell.

The main thing I'm trying to do is move the part that runs vertically away from the compressor housing to allow more room for IC piping.

Any more news on this pipe ??
I'm considering doing something similar and like the idea of the ally converter but don't have a local machine shop
So I guess the best way is to use a reducer from turbo up to a large size ally pipe
I'm nearly done installing my 20v into my mk2

thought id show you guys what i had made for my K04 hybrid the other day, moved jobs opposite a machine shop and they done this for me in exchange for servicing his car

its now 2 1/2 inch so straight from there gonna put silicone pipe going up to 3" and straight to 3" MAF, couldnt go straight to 3" cause ABS unit is in the way, ill post up pics when fully installed
