Hey all,
I'm looking to get back in to the VW fold and am considering doing something i've never, ever done before so am looking for a bit of a steer from you experienced people.
I was at my local dealership today to figure some numbers, during which time my wife bought a pre reg car (yes, she does things like that) - Mk7 1.6TDI.
I have my eye on an GTD, and want to know if the deal discussed is good, or if it could be better. They seem to say it's the best they can do, but I don't know - having never bought new before.
Buying it on their finance option:
£1K off list price
3 years servicing
£600 fuel card
This is off a stock car that just landed in exactly the colour I want. It has a couple of options I wouldn't have bothered with, but no buggy.
Does this sound good, or should I haggle and walk away? Going for another drive tomorrow night.
Thanks :)

Hello there.
It's probably worth putting full details of the car and spec up, as that'll let other members work out the kind of discount you could get. From what you've said I would say the dealer could double that £1k discount without too much trouble. I've read other members have managed to get around 10% discounts.
It's definitely worth making a few phone calls to other dealers in your area to see if they have any stock cars too, as that would give you scope to haggle with more than one dealer for the best deal.
-
I guess that equates to a £1800 saving which off a very hard to come by stock car I would say that is fair. You could wait a few weeks and hope he comes back with a better offer but by then that car will of gone to someone trying to find a car for March delivery. You will get more off an order placed with an online broker who just wants to simply fill the forward order banks.
-
Depends what the options are. If you're getting (in effect) £1800 off a car but it has £2000 worth of options you'd not spec yourself, then you're not getting a deal - you'd be no better off than buying one with only thhe options you do want, or no options and paying RRP for it.
Some might say it'll be gone in a flash because it is here now, but Christmas-time is a very quiet year for the dealerships. If that car is still there towards the end of the month, they might be more inclined to up the deal. Whatever happens - shy bairns get nowt, so what's the harm in asking for more and saying they have a few days to mull it over? When are they obliged to register it by? If it is registered as a 63 plate literally weeks before the 14 plate comes out then it'll be worth a good £1250 less than a March "14" plate car. That in itself is at least worth asking for another grand off if it is still there towards the end of the month.
All depends how desperate you are to have this car now and whether you're prepared to swallow the cost of options you're not fussed about which will eat into or negate your discount.
-
Difficult to advise without
a- Knowing the spec of the car
b- knowing what spec you would prefer.
As Monkeyhanger says above - its down to how desperate you are for it but it might well be a beter option to order the car in the spec you really want and get a good discount on that....

Don't "demo" vehicles have to be kept for 90 days by the dealer ?
I thought this used it be the rule, as VW UK like there to be stock of demo vehicles out there for customers to try.

I don't think this is a demo as it's not registered. Most likely a mucked up order (i.e. wrong spec).

Doh! Thought I had read it had done a 100 miles . oops

No - that the GTI on another thread that was in the showroom (presumably for three months) with £6k off. Now that was a good deal....

True

They classed this one as a 'stock' car?
Options are:
Adaptive chassis
Winter pack
Basic sat nav
To be honest, if I was being tight I wouldn't have any of them, but actually all but the sat nav would be good. Unless the sat nav is a good one, then maybe I would.
-
Still need more info please:
5 or 3 door?
Manual or DSG?
Colour?
Thx
-
Well, in my usual headlong way, I went ahead and bought it anyway!
5 door GTD Manual
Carbon grey
Adaptive chassis control
Winter pack
Discover nav
It's not registered yet and still had all the plastic on it from transport. They still called it a 'stock car' rather than a cancelled order or demo. It had the same spec as their demo, so maybe it's true. I don't know.
I managed to get £1700 off list price, 3 years servicing, a £500 fuel card and Life Shine - which I think was a pretty good deal for a car that will be registered for me to pick up on Saturday morning without painful months of waiting.
I'm a VERY happy and excited 'soon to be' Golf owner again! :) :)
-
Apart from the Lifeshine, that sounds liek a good deal for a car thats in stock so long as you will be registered as the first owner. Good spec and great colour too, so all good
Enjoy the car !

Not a fan of Life Shine?
I wouldn't have gone for it, but was trying for that little bit more on the deal! :)
Yes, will be the first registered owner. The sales lady is going to send me over a choice of potential plates tomorrow.

There's nothing wrong with Autogylm LifeShine but it's not worth £399 that's for certain.
You have to ensure the dealership preps the car properly and applies it correctly otherwise it could end up being a waste.
When you collect ensure there are no swirl marks on the body work
Congratulations on the new car, no waiting is a big factor ....

Lifehine and similar applications need to be done by a detailer or at least a valeter who has set aside/been given the time to prepare the car thoroughly to receive the sealant. That means wash, de-tar, clay, de-iron etc. Main dealers valeters just dont have the time to do that amount of prepping so the system is usulally too hastily applied.
The raw material pack an be bought for a tenner on ebay btw!

I had LifeShine and it was done without fault, not a swirl mark in sight. I do have to admit that my dealership and the techie do go that extra mile which the majority of dealerships do not do these days...... I pass 2 different Volkswagen dealership on the way to my dealership, that's how much a trust them
Been going there since 2004.... back on topic.... if you feel your dealership may mess it up, don't let them do it.... simples.

To be honest, I was happy with the deal I got initially. The Life Shine was just an attempt to get more 'value'. If it's done right, happy days. If not, it'll be going to a friend of mine to do properly - as I know for sure he'll do the best job possible on it.
Can't wait to get the keys now. I'm only waiting less than a week, I have no idea how people wait 5 months!!
-
Sounds great! Enjoy the collection :-)
Oh - the five month wait - easy, you just order five months before you want the new car (it doesnt work as an impulse purchase, lol)!!

Congratulations on the new car, great deal and the best colour! I do think you are missing out on an important part of the experience though. Everyone will tell you how good it is to press refresh on the tracker 50 times a day to find out if your car has been built yet

Decent deal for a built car. You'll miss the tracker experience like a hole in the head

Did the deal on Monday night, picking up first thing Saturday morning. This wait has been excruciating. How the hell people wait for months on end, I have no idea!
I'll have to see if I still have any Golf GTI Forum stickers left over from the Mk1 for the back window :)
-
[the best colour!
Absolutely
