Hi all,
I know there are threads on MK4 leaks but wanted to post this up as I'm at a loss as to where the leaks are.
After heavy rainfall (quite common at the moment) the rear passenger side footwell is soaking wet. If I park with the driver side next to the curb then the water pools in the corner by the centre console. I have a sunroof but the drains were cleaned out not too long ago so I don't think this is where the problem is.
Also I have another leak in the drivers footwell. When I got in the car yesterday I noticed a patch on the floor mat was wet. However the area surrounding the patch was dry and it looked as though water could have been dripping down from underneath the steering column. Is this possible?
I would love to hear from anyone who has had similar problems and how they can be fixed.
Cheers,
Ross

Mine did the same recently, not sure where it came from so I just vaxed it all up. I don't have a sunroof which doesn't really help tracing it

Check the drain holes in the bottom of the doors, it's probably leaking from the metal panel behind your door cards.
-
Ok thanks for that. When I remove my door cards how would I check for certain this is the issue? Also how do you re-seal? Can I just use standard sealant?
-
Pollen filter under your scuttle panel may not be sitting correctly allowing water through or if you have fitted a boost gauge make sure you sealed up the hole you pierced for the little pipe correctly.
-
Maybe the bonnet pull cables letting in water best bet is to dry it up as best as possible and get someone outside with a hose whilst you search
-
Thanks for the replies. I think the best thing is to sit in the car while a mate hoses it! Hopefully I find the leak that way.
-
Will check the drain holes in my rear door tomorrow cheers
-
Any luck mate? Mine is still pouring in

have you had your regulator panel off? check that its all sealed still. both of mine leaked, the first i didnt know you had to reseal i thought the rubber would provide a seal, the second i resealed with butyl tape but it came un sealed when a bit of water was in the door and freezed causing the panel to push away...
-
check the rubber seal where the bonnet cable goes through the firewall
-
Check your spare wheel well to see if it's wet, if it is then open the n/s panel in the boot and stick your hand right into the corner beneath the night and feel for a puddle. If you've got one then check your rear light and a vent which is under the bumper will prob need sealed.

look at the panel filter. I had the same issue where it leaked through the panel filter and ran under the dashboard/glove compartment to the back of the floor panel.

Mine's dry as a bone now :afro:

I found the source of the water! I unclipped and removed the rear seats then got the carpet up. It was absolutely sodden and there was a huge puddle. I could have drowned in it.
Anyway I squeezed as much out of the carpet as I could and mopped it all up. Before anything else I decided to test the drain holes in the sunroof. Bingo! The rear drain hole isn't working and with the carpet up I saw all the water gushing into the foot well. So now I know what needs to be fixed.
Next question - I thought I knew where the rear drain holes were but was wrong. Where do the rear drains deposit the water?
Cheers,
-
Ok found out where the drains are. Going to give them a squeeze which will hopefully unblock them.

The plot thickens!
I checked the rubber nipple and it was dry as a bone. So I decided to have a look for the pipe that connects the sunroof drain end to the rubber nipple. Well I found the connector to the rubber nipple but the pipe was missing! Yes that's right I have no drain pipe connecting one end to the other. Unbelievable. So the water goes into the sunroof and gushed straight down into the car because there is no pipe. Great!
At least I know what needs to be done now.
Does anyone know where could I get a replacement pipe from?
-
Dealers will be your best bet mate, I'll see if I can find a part number
-
Fronts are the same part number, rears are sided. What one do you need?
-
Thanks Wazzer.
It's the rear passenger side. I still can't believe the pipe is missing!
-
1J6 877 233, double check that's for the right size when you go in though
If you need the drain tube that goes on the end it's 8D0 877 242
-
Thanks for this. Where should I look to get hold of these? Doing Google searches doesn't throw up much!
Cheers,

Local dealers mate

Ok cool I'll get down Beadles in Dartford at the weekend. Hopefully they won't charge an arm and a leg for a bit of rubber!

Shouldn't be more than a tenner I reckon
