Title: whats the difference between the 150+180?
Post by: Hiddenbhp on 04 January 2014, 21:47
Sooo what's the difference between the 150bhp and the 180bhp gti? And before anyone says yes there is 30bhp difference! But what makes that difference? Is it purely the turbo or is there other things that gives that little more ooommmfff?

The reason I ask is unfortunalty my UAM 150bhp the engine needs replacing and I'm gunna get a recond one to go in but while I'm there and spending the money I really wouldn't mind swapping it for a 180. How can I do this? Does everything have to stay UAM as all I'm doing is swapping the block ?

The turbo is a K03s as opposed to the K03 and 1 extra gear in the gearbox.

Not sure about that one Lewy as AUM's have a K03s,
Only difference is the Map file and extra gear.

just replace the engine if yours is ruined and go for a remap.

The turbo is a K03s as opposed to the K03 and 1 extra gear in the gearbox.

So if I were to just change the turbo to the ko3s will it work? And if I'm just changing the block can I put am AGU lump in instead of the UAM?

It's AUM, not UAM.

Both AUM and AUQ have ko3s turbos, as has already been said the extra 30bhp is down to the mapping.

pretty certain they are

As dom and others have said, the aum and auq share basically the same engine and turbo the auq has a different map to the 150 aum engine

Its just the ECU map thats different

Both AUM & AUQ make the same power once mapped

Can i put an AGU block into my AUM? or would i have to change things?

Yes you can fit an AGU, you would need to change the sump though as the AGU doesn't have the oil sensor in the bottom.

not 100% certain but wouldn't you need the main wiring loom/harness from the agu also

I think 180's have vented rear discs as well.

And 312mm fronts, but I think the engine was the item in question...

when fitting different blocks and things into a 1.8T car, you retain the loom and ECU from the CAR, and not the engine.

This applies to all sensors also, AGU block into an AUM will retain all AUM ancillaries and sensors and loom.

Don't be tempted to re-use parts that look the same either, ARZ and AUM/AUQ MAF's look the same but arn't, likewise with the knock sensors.
