Title: mk2 golf gti, rear sidelights working, front sidelights not

hi all, my front side lights wont work, everything else works just fine including the rear sidelights,
was just wondering if anyone could say where I should start?

The bulbs/ live testing the front wires?

Most likely just the bulbs blown, otherwise check the front sidelight wires for a live, and a good earth.
If it was a fuse problem, then the rears would be out as well...

Don't know what year your car is but mine has a coil thing that the side light wires go through.
This keeps the spots glowing faintly as well.
If this is disconnected or broken all the front side lights fail.
It can be found in the engine bay bolted just behind the radiator on the drivers side.

The "coil thing" is the dim-dip resistor. It sends 6 volts to dip beam when the ignition is switched on along with parking lights. It was legislation back in the 80's, designed to prevent people from driving round with just their parking lights on.

If your inner spots are glowing too, I would suspect you have an earthing problem as power is back feeding to them somehow.

hi all, I haven't been on in a while, I feel like such a fool, some crazy stuff been happening with the golf lately, and now the sidelight bulb holders have vanished out of the car completely  :huh:
the only reason I can think of behind this is I had been taking my car to this bloke who had done a couple of things on the car and I did notice another golf in bits there,, I think he may have had them away.
anyway, all sorted now!!
