Title: Recommendation to diagnose performance issue - Macclesfield (upto 50 miles)
Post by: MysteryMan on 02 January 2014, 17:54
I have a 2006 Golf GTI, which I bought last May, and right from the off I don't feel it is driving as smoothly as it should. Difficult to describe but seems to hesitate/lag much more than I remember my previous one doing.

I got it remapped to 240bhp and this didn't do anything to improve it (much to my dismay!). Subsequently, I was told that MAF sensor was faulty so replaced that and has driven better for a while.

However, it now seems to back to square one and I think I need someone to look at it to do 2 things....
By a bit of searching, the following seem possible places to try that are within a reasonable distance of where I live (Macclesfield, Cheshire)....

- More BHP (Crewe)
- Awesome GTI (Manchester)
- Shark (Mansfield)

Does anyone have experience of these companies doing this sort of diagnostic work? Or, is there anyone else I should be considering?

Since you're in Mac, Mike at Vortex is very good sorting out these issues.

Yes, went to Votex and Mike drove the car. He agreed that there was something not right and described it as "flat" and certainly not as responsive as it should be.

Back at the garage he plugged in the laptop. No errors showed up but he scanned through individual readings to see if anything looked odd and spotted that the fuel pump pressure was reading -270 - the expected values were 2-7000, I think.

So, it is booked in next Friday for him to be able spend some more time investigating. This certainly sounds like it could be causing the problem and may involve a new pump.....anyone any idea of a likely cost?

Well, Mike diagnosed a faulty Fuel Pressure Sensor and replaced it yesterday - the car is much smoother and pleasant to drive.

I think it is as fast as it ought to be, but, tricky to say. One day I might get it on a rolling road to find out.

Anyway, I am happy with it now

Big vote for Votex who provided an excellent service!
