Title: Skygo on Xbox 360
Post by: bobbieboy69er on 02 January 2014, 09:02
Thinking of buying a used 360 purely to watch skygo on, any reviews?? Decent quality? Do I need a xbox live subscription?

I currently watch it on my laptop hooked thru my tv, but my laptop is old and can't keep up! Now that I do 99% of stuff on my ipad, I don't see the point in buying a new laptop purely for skygo...

Thanks in advance

chances are you need xbox live, need it for pretty much everything else. only thing i really think you can do over the internet without live is update the software on your xbox.

Waste of money mate u could get Apple TV or a mini pc for less like a raspberry pi for 29.99 bit of tweaking and it's the business and as he said you would need xbl with a 360 which is and extra 30

Apple TV won't support skygo, else I would have gone down that route.

Skygo needs silver light so can't see a pi being able too do the job.

A second hand 360 wud only set me back £75... Plus £30 a yr. prob my best/cheapest option

Brand new Xbox is £130. Id go for that as you don't know how long a 2nd hand one will last.....

You are correct about Apple TV I thought it did work but after reading it doesn't!! However the raspberry pi will run sky go via xbmc no problem at all :)

The NowTV box looks so much better on paper than the AppleTV and only 1/10 of the price.
The NowTV box is based on the Roku box, but with some customisation. It has all the OnDemand services (BBC iPlayer/4OD/Demand5/etc but no ITV) that the Apple doesn't have, plus the ability to install a few apps.
The downside is that you're locked to Sky for movie content whereas the Apple is locked to iTunes or Netflix.

I see no mention that the NowTV box does SkyGo though.

I don't want to pay for another sky subscription, I already have the full sky pack at home, I need skygo so I can watch it when I'm at work (I work away mon-fri).  As said, I don't think skygo works on now tv, it wouldn't make sense if it did either/wouldn't be in skys interest.

Thanks for your opinions, xbox it is me thinks.... Does anyone know if it's good quality and stable on the xbox? Cheers

Doesn't work with a lead either as far as i am aware  Sky blame it on licensing but that is just nonsense as you can play it on your tv via a lap top & lead just not an iphone or ipad

100% doesn't work with a lead as it's encrypted. Doesn't work on jail broken or rooted devices either.

I know because I work on Sky Go... ;)

I have just discovered that airplay for Sky Go works perfectly well on my Retina Mac Book Pro which is great news as i can now watch Sky in my bedroom as well & multi room wasn't an option for us as we used a shared dish & the LNB was full:cool:

That's because it's encrypted for transmission to a TV via any tablet. It's meant to beike that due to licensing agreements :-)

LNB full! Wowser! Have you got an Octo LNB?

That's 4x + or 8 std boxes. You could always get a second dish by an indie. :-)

Haven't got a clue just know to have a second box we had to pay for a new LNB and as we rent wasn't prepared to pay for that plus our landlord then decided no one could add new ariels, dishes etc

Apple Tv is perfect as can access my Mac or network drive from it plus airplay free view etc but could never do Sky which was annoying but having just got a new mac book realised i can now airplay sky & so i should be able to as that whole licensing thing is bullsh!t they are just worried about people getting Sky free which i don't for reference i do pay their extortionate fee for terrible tv

I'd probably ask if you have an Octo. The phone advisors won't know, but if you can get an engineer to check for you.. Most have a quad LNB, so worth checking :-)

Already had it checked by an engineer thats who told us we needed a new LNB as said irrelevant now anyway as not allowed to make any changes to ariels or dishes etc
