I no this subject has been spoken about a lot and I have used the search button but I feel this is really quite bad I dont no what to do next :/ ill upload some pics many thanks

After checking your coolant bottle.
As it is the rear foot well have you checked your sunroof seal and drains are clear also the rear window rusts around the bonded seal.
The rear lights and aerial seal leak but they usually fill the boot with water.
The worst mark 3 I ever looked at had a rusted inner and outer seal just in front of rear wheel arch and was leaking water in just behind the bottom seat belt anchor.
If you cant see any holes on the outside of the golf I would remove the rear card and pull the carpet and wait for our wonderful weather to do the rest.

Ok mate I cant see any rust on the car not even under the arches might b worth taking the rear cards off I suppose. One side didnt have a membrane one so going to try ttat as wwell.the one thing I found is the end of the door trim on the door wont sit flush as it wont clip in properly as if the hole is to big :/

Check around the door rubber where it joins/splits, they rot big time hidden by the rubber and can leak badly into the foot well.
If the sunroof drains are good then I would suspect floor or sills, its not a big job to pull the seats out and lift the carpet leaving the centre console in.

I had this issue and it was the front passenger sun roof drain pipe, which had come off the drain connection. Was a bit of a pain to sort as you have to drop the roof lining and A pillar trim to connect the pipe back up.
I ended up using a fresh piece of silicon hose instead of the brittle 17 year old clear drain pipe, to make sure it wouldn't come off again in a hurry.
Best test to see if this is your issue is to get a small cup of water and pour it down the front sunroof (passenger side) drain hole with the door shut and note where the water exits - outside your car near front of the door, you're fine. Inside the car = good luck! :nerd:

I recently had my rear passenger footwell quite soaked! I checked the sunroof drains they all seemed fine changed the rear light seals. It turns out the water is coming in through the gromit in the rear passenger footwell!
However my front footwell wasnt wet so I don't know what to suggets there, I remember people always mentioning the battery tray rotting ?

I remembered that this happened to me about 8 years ago and weirdly it was the pollen filter getting completely blocked up!

It may be that the rubber grommet there is no longer letting fluid out or is only letting fluid in.. I had the same problem after I took a long 600 mile trip in the rain to Scotland last year...it turned out the grommet was perished so I removed it and siliconed a replacement in and that was that...You will have to remove the rear carpets and the insulation underneath. I suggest you do this ASAP as that sound deadening (or whatever that fiberglass looking stuff is) will start to rot and dry it out and you can put it back and see if it stays dry and then replace it with something better...
I know my repair has held up as today went to Portsmouth and the real stayed dry...
The grommet looked fine from the bottom of the car, but the problem was that it was letting water in and not out.....:).
People have suggested that it be welded over...but I don't have a welder...so I did a quick fix..

Got this exact same problem on my car which has manifested itself in this heavy rain recently.
Did as above and indeed it is leaking in the front footwell and then pooling in the rear, so will have to take a look at replacing the pipe!

Sorted :) sunroof drains blocked :) gave it to a mate he took them out unblocked them now good as gold
