Hi everyone.
This is my first post. I have read a few threads here with similar problems but thought I should start with my own.
I have a mk3 GTI 1997. 2.0 8v with the seemingly common stalling problem when dipping the clutch to slow or stop. It does it hot or cold but appears to do so less when hot (this could be my imagination!) Oil and battery light come on when it stalls but it starts straight away or if I catch it in time and release the clutch I can bump it.
I have put all new oil breather hoses on as they were split but still the same problem. I have checked the #30 ECU power relay after 15 mins driving and it is warm so assume it's not faulty?
I have a few ideas of things to do based on reading threads here...
Throttle body clean, Crank sensor, Coolant temp sensor, fuel pump relay.... where is the best place to start?
I have never really done any DIY on any of my cars, are these all things I can do myself?

Scan with a code reader, this one works well but do shop around I've seen it cheaper.

See what it throws up (does your abs work :grin:)
Just replace both relays end of and bin the old ones
Search function is your friend, look up Rusty sills and floor, Rust, ABS sensor fault, ABS ECU fault, 5500 RPM limit, Hall sensor, Timing, exploding diff, Gearbox knackered, 16v vs 8v, 16v/VR engine conversion, 1,8t conversion, sod it buy a Mk4, regret doing that and buy a TDI Bora.

If all fails try cleaning the throttle body

Well as it it was nice and dry today I decided to clean the throttle body. I decided I wasn't brave enough to remove the whole thing so I unclipped the air intake pipe, sprayed a load of halfords finest carb cleaner down the TB, gave it a good going over with a toothbrush, moved the butterfly to get right down it....
Just took her out for a spin and NO MORE STALLING! The revs are holding when slowing or dipping the clutch between 1000-800.
