Happend on my old car, but there was a whole pedal unit on ebay for cheep. So bought the whole thing and had cousin fit it while I was at work. ( cusins a mechanic) however he's on his honeymoon and guessing most garages going to be closed now. And I have to go to work tomorrow. Sorted a lift out for tomorow.
What are my options? How hard is it to replace the clip ( hoping the master cylinder is ok)

I had this go on mine,
Brought a pedal kit from VW as it was the plastic bit and the weld on the pedal that had snapped so check if that has gone as well.
I found it really hard to do and wouldn't like to do it again, I think I'd buy the parts and then pay the hours labour charge I was quoted rather than the few it took me.
You'll have to be careful not to put pressure on the master cylinder from the rod if that breaks the seals that'll need replacing.
I used this guide:

Good luck!

yeah just checked, think the welds gone aswell... bloody brilliant.

The jobs not to bad but it does help to have a spare pair of hands and small hands at that as the hardest part is getting the spring back in. Make sure you have some small cable ties. If you do it yourself and you're handy with a welder to get the piece back in it'll only set you back a few quid.

sorted a lift for work tomorrow. going to take the pedal out tomorrow afternoon and get it welded over xmas (Any body know what type of metal it is? will get my cusn to weld it.
also any body got a pic of how I need it welded? take it I just need a small plate welded along the front to stop the piston going through?
-
Bad luck :/. I had this happen to me. The aa put a bolt through and the plastic socket end pushes against that now. Not a permanent fix but it will do the job for the minute!
-
clips etc ordered, giong to be here on saturday, blagg...
suppose it gives me a few days to get the clutch pedal out and get it welded up. while its off i may even sand it down to match the R32 pedals i have, see what it looks like, if im not a fan i can easily re-paint it...
so hopefully it will be fixed this weekend... :)

All you need to do is weld the little metal square back in dude, simples. Not sure what kind of metal it is though.
-
It will be mild steel so no special welding will be needed.

when it snaped it pretty much snapped everything around it, sensors frigged, the clip the sensor pushes on is snapped, the bump stops for the pedal have snaped... so as well as getting the pedal replaced iv got all them to do, soonest vw can get them for me is sat...

anyone know if theres a clutch cylinder bleed valve to relieve some of the pressure in the master cylinder and if so where?
-
or should I be able to push the master cylinder in by hand? not sure if iv bent/broke it and that's why I cannot push it in or whether its just the pressure in the cylinder?
-
It would be quite difficult to push in by hand mate. What's the issue?
-
cant quite get the pedal in cause the master cylinder push rod is in the way.
-
chop it down, it'll be fine

soon as I saw your username I though oh Wes he will have a sensible reply and be able to help... How wrong I was

Suppose it would be difficult without a picture.
Sure it's in properly? Would it be at the correct distance if you could get it in? IIRC it's like a kind of box shape which the rod slots into?
If the length is in the correct place but doesn't allow the pedal to get into the box then just take it out and line it up and bolt back up.
You don't really want pressure on the rod when pedal is in relaxed position as it's just asking for unnecessary component wear.

Prober boy just me, it's a bit of an awkward bugger. Will have a go tomorrow again and if no joy upload a few pics.

Sorted. Cause I had the plastic clip on I couldn't position the pedal to get the piston in. Soon as I took the clip off sorted. PITA of a job though. If it snaps again I'll take a wv bill over ripped open / bruised hands.
Also. If you drip a clutch pedal, make sure the pointy end doesn't land on your eye...one of the most painful things
-
Got it sorted. Works and that. However when I dip the clutch I get a weird high pitched noise. Any ideas anyone

Is it possible that when the clutch snapped it damaged the thrust bearing or another baring?
