Title: Phone / Bluetooth has disappeared
Post by: rocko_n82 on 23 December 2013, 16:10
Hey, looking for some help. Had my car in getting a wee bit of bodywork done after a neighbour reversed into the bumper, it's came back all good but for some reason my phone isn't connecting now. There isn't even an option for phone, it just mutes the radio sound when I press the button. I've tried connecting to the Bluetooth and it's saying connected but it's lnot showing on the head unit. I've had a look under my drivers seat and can't seem to find anything unplugged except for one purple wire, I can't see what it would plug into.

The repair shop says they wouldn't have had any reason to plug the car in, I'm wondering was the battery disconnected and that's done something it was working when I left it in.

Help?

Sorry, is a mk6 gti and I'm using an iPhone 5

Is the phone menu still in the DIS? Press the < > buttons on the right hand side of the steering wheel to access it.

I think from looking online it's an rcd510 unit, it has the fiscal box under drivers seat and a phone button on the unit. No it's gone from there, I've tried those buttons.

When you say it says it's connected to the Bluetooth, where is it saying this?  On your phone or in the DIS menu?  If it's the DIS menu then that must mean it's got the phone menu!

I've got rcd510 with the box under the drivers seat.  Had a quick look and can't see any purple wires hanging out.

Another thing to try is going into setup menu on head unit - setup button - phone (soft button) - restore factory settings.  Worth a try.

It's saying connected on my phone but nowhere else. In set up mode hard button the phone option on the touch screen has completely disappeared.

Loose purple wire looks the likely culprit then.

Pressing the phone button on the radio will open up the phone function on the radio if it is connected to a paired phone. You pair your phone using the DIS.

As I asked before, is he phone menu still in the DIS? If so, try deleting the pairing then re-connecting it again.

Can't be a coincidence that it's been in the bodyshop and come back not working.  Probably some oaf like tech has accidentally kicked the box under the driver's seat.  That purple wire definitely looks like it should be connected to something.  Didn't take the lid off mine, but if I get time tommorow, I'll have a look.  Too dark and windy tonight.  Does the lid just pull off?

Yeah that's what I told the guy, I mean they are a vw repair centre so they should know what they are doing. I was told they would have no reason to touch it but still, it was working like a beaut before I left it in and now it's disappeared. I fail to see how you could manage to kick it, it's well tucked away. Yeah the polystyrene box is just Velcro tabbed on.

Thanks for your help, I just couldn't see what the purple lead connected too.

Managed to have a look.  Bored and any excuse to escape the family at Xmas

No purple cable in mine, just the thick black cable connecting to the box.  No other ports on the box either.  Are Fiscon aftermarket units, not factory fit?

Found this http://fiscon-mobile.com/support/img/fiscon_vw_en.pdf  (see Page 6) which may explain the unhooked purple cable, IF the Fiscon unit is an aftermarket fit.  If so, it looks like it should be unhooked as it's from the original interface and is replaced solely by the fiscon connector.  Course I could be entirely wrong!

Also came across this advice for the same problem on another forum

"I had to disconnect the battery from the motor, left it for half a hour then connected it back up again. Then start the car up and then search for bluetooth devices. "KUFATEC FISCON" then appeared on my iPhone and put the code "1234" in and i was connected"

I don't really know if it was aftermarket, it looks pretty neat in there so I assumed it was factory fitted. I bought the car with 20k on it. I'll have a look again in daylight and maybe try disconnecting the battery, I suppose it's quite possible they had it disconnected when working on it. They have suggested bringing it back for them to look at but that's not ideal with Xmas and a few other things going on.

Cheers

My box has no branding on it at all but is factory fit.   Good luck, hope you get it sorted.

Mine did this a few times, just unplug and replug the module in and do a reset on the 510

Hopefully the above will work.

You could also try doing a hard reset on your iphone, even though the phone recognises the car.   My rcd510 wouldn't recognise my ipod a few weeks back and doing a hard reset on the iPod worked.
