Title: Help with silicon hoses
Post by: maxey on 23 December 2013, 13:02
So iv had my golf Gti 1.8t for about 6 months and I have the fault code 17705 so iv found a split pipe but I have also found that the previous owner has bodged a copper pipe and t piece where the silicon hoses should go. I want to replace the hole lot with the proper hoses but not sure what they are called can anyone help?
Here is a picture

All of that pipework looks to have been messed with, can you post a picture showing more of the engine bay? Also what is your engine code?

The hose coming off the rocker cover is just a breather pipe, silicone replacements can be had for about £30 off ebay but you need to make sure the rest of the pipework is ok before buying it.

Is there still the 'hockey puck' fitted? It's fitted behind the diverter valve and should look like this:

The breather hose with the red tape wrapped around it is common for splitting and should look like this:

(http://i790.photobucket.com/albums/yy183/codling1234/b433d7b3-f98b-4cc2-8423-2b658fc1c95f_zps518e888b.jpg) (http://s790.photobucket.com/user/codling1234/media/b433d7b3-f98b-4cc2-8423-2b658fc1c95f_zps518e888b.jpg.html)

Yours looks like it's been bodged instead of replaced, this is the hose that you need if you want to sort it:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Silicone-Crankcase-Breather-Hose-VW-Golf-1-8T-AUM-AUQ-/150993461267?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2327e96013 (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Silicone-Crankcase-Breather-Hose-VW-Golf-1-8T-AUM-AUQ-/150993461267?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2327e96013)

But it looks like the pipe it joins to has been changed as well. Can you take the lower engine cover off and get a picture of the corrugated pipe that goes underneath it?

Has the SAI been plumbed into the breather system?!

It's all a mess! I'm wondering if there is a catch can hidden away under the lower engine cover somewhere...

If it's missing it's just called a breather tube I think.

If it's the one highlighted in the picture above it's part number: 06A 103 213 BG

All the info above is from here:

Yeah, to me it looks like you need a new breather hose like the one I linked on eBay and the other hose to replace that corrugated one.

Other option would be to fit a catch can and ditch a lot of the PCV system, take a look here for a guide:

I would personally replace them all, I got mine from a company called Creation motor sport and I cannot fault them.
There service is exceptional and the parts are brilliant.

I also have an AUM and I managed to buy all the parts from them cheaper than any other named brand.

Here is a few pics of them.

It's the crankcase breather and pcv lower breathers that he needs, I've already linked to the crankcase one on eBay.

Personally I wouldn't bother with the boost hoses and tip.

I don't know if it's just me being stupid but that PVC lower is that the correct pipe because it has a split off to 2 sections where as I was told to get the same part number but bg at the end this one has ak at the end is this still fine?

I must admit it was a complete bugger to fit but I have noticed a difference with it. Alot less restrictive than oem bit ovi a forge one would be better.
