Title: For those who hate the artificial engine sound
Post by: monsta on 22 December 2013, 16:33
This guy put a video up on YouTube on how to install a switch to turn the sound actuator on and off on a Mk6.  Most likely the location and unit itself are the same on the mk7

Anyone feeling brave?

Follow up showing the difference;

Thanks for the links.

Was there never a way to do this via VCDS?

Doesn't look like it unfortunately

Shame, I'd even settle for a fuse I could remove so I could run the sport engine profile without the extra droning

If you check other videos that guy posted he puts a switch in the engine bay which is actually quite tidy.

This isn't a mod I'll be attempting as I quite like the sound actuator, just stick it in normal/eco to turn it down :)

This would be ideal. Wonder how to find it out which fuse it is?

Yep that was pretty cool..

But I'd want it on a micro switch on the last 5% of pedal travel

Even better idea!! Although it would be nice to turn it off altogether by pulling a fuse.

It does not have its own fuse nor does it have its own identity on the canbus system so you cant de-activate with VCDS. The only way to get rid of it is to physically remove it or its power supply or add a switch.

I take it the "enhanced" sound isn't good then? Does it compare with putting cards in your bike spokes as a kid ?.

Lol could be something like that. I'd have to drive a car without though.

I quite like the sound, 2.0T Volkswagen blocks don't really sound great so they had to do something.
Still can't beat big engines for sound,

Oh I don't know, I had a 1.3 polo g40 which sounded great.

(Though I guess that was the supercharger mixing with wheelspin ;))

I like the little farty noise the GTI makes when you put your foot down a bit. I think its the valves or something? (anyone know what im talking about?) Its like a little backfire but more......farty.

Are you referring to the famous DSG "burps" when you upshift on the flappy paddle with the throttle down?

Yeah could be a 'burp' rather than a 'fart'. I don't need to be using the paddles though, seems to do it if I put my foot down in any mode. If its rev'd up high enough it'll burp when changing gear. (DSG)
