I had previously complained before that I wasnt sure if my golf was holding back or was remapped as it seemed quick but not as quick as I thought it should be.
Got it checked out today and the tuning company confirmed it had been remapped previously and I was very surprised. They said they would check the remap against their own to see if they could better it. However I was fairly naive as I thought if they could do a better remap it would make it faster.
Well I got it remapped and it still didnt really fix it, the tuning company drove the car himself and admitted that it felt quick and the power was there but it tailors off towards the end which was my initial gripe. He checked himself for error codes and I have scanned it myself and there are no boost looks.
He seems to think it may be the dump valve but I replaced the original atmospheric dv with a forge 008p and he says I should trying using a bog standard one and see if that makes a difference but im fairly reluctant
He says he will give it another go and put it on a RR to see the difference as they did a mobile map.
Any idea what could be causing the problems? I am tempted to ask for £50 back as I paid £200 for the map but dont seem to be seeing any benefit but obviously want to pay them for their work.
-
Honestly mate if you have paid £200 and feel no difference I woudl ask for the full ammoutn back.
And its bollocks them telling you that you should use a standard DV the forge 008 is a perfect DV to use. Infact I would say that professional mapping companys advise to use the forge 007 or 008 insted of the bog standard one.
if it was me, I would ask for my money back.
-
Nothing wrong with a bog standard valve from the dealers...in some cases proved to be less faulty (leaking) than the 'uprated' counterparts.
In all fairness, he was always going to say he could better it....its business and money in his pocket.
Did they not check everything over prior to the map being put on? Check the PCV system under the inlet, particularly the long 's' shaped pipe which is prone to splits.
Other than that, you could have a faulty maf, lambda sensor, N75 or a weak actuator.
All these should have been checked prior to tuning the car with logs of a high gear full throttle run to establish what is going on with the sensors on the engine.
Have you a boost gauge? What you boost at what RPM? what engine code? Any other mods apart from a DV?
9 times out of 10 its the hardware not making power rather than the software.

The thing was he came recommended from a friend which is why I used him.
It was originally quoted for £100 but he says as it was not OBD he had to take ECU so therefore more work.
They usually charge £300 but said he would do it for £200.
It then ended up taking like 3 hours instead of 45 minutes as he had to send the code to his programmer to check if it could be bettered or not.
Its an MK4 AGU, so does it have an N75?
I dont have a boost gauge.
Just the carbonio cai air filter and oo8p forge dv.
I feel cheeky asking for £50 back however as they have mapped the car and done "£200" worth of work despite myself not feeling any benefit.
He did say to contact him about any further problems enquirers etc so he didnt shy away
-
Yes it will have an N75.
-
The AGU can be mapped through the ODB port if you know what you're doing... which this guy clearly sounds like he doesn't.
For £200 I'd have expected some basic checks on the boost hoses etc, not just flash a map and run
-
Like I said hes offered to help with any queries etc and says he will get it on a rolling road to see what figures it is outputting but his advice was to replace the dump valve which I have already done 7 month ago so cant see that being the problem, albeit both were noisy ones and not stock.
So I am curious to what it could be as there are no fault codes or both my scanner and the tuners own!
Well he was says he couldnt do it by OBD, I only used him as a friend recommended him as he done his own golf and was happy with it.
So surely no fault codes rules out most the problems above?
-
The AGU doesn't have many fault codes that will turn up on VAG COM. Try a working DV and go from there but make it clear you're not happy
-
Cheers, apprecaite the feedback
Edit - regarding the ODB. He was technically telling the truth it seems.
No issues with a map through the OBD2 port unless it has APR or revo software on which needs fully removing prior to a map.
The tuner, did confirm it had a revo remap but he could only tell this once he checked the ECU. so hmmm

Well you guys said: "Other than that, you could have a faulty maf, lambda sensor, N75 or a weak actuator."
I have ruled out the MAF sensor, disconnected it and wow it ran like a bag of crap lol, no power at all and idling problems all over.
Unsure on lambda or N75 without buying new ones sadly, not sure about weak actuator...
However, at Vee Dubs, he did check it out and say it was wet on the small pipe that sits under the turbo cover/injectors (where the dip stick is) he said that was wet and could cause problems?
Although he did say these turbos do drop off at higher range as they arent the KO3S? that keep going all the way?
Think I will be asking for a refund... about to get awkward.
Edit - Vee Dubz (Where the tuner gold me to go) said themselves that the forge 008p DV wont be a problem and if anything would be better. So lets hope I can sort something :(
-
disconnecting the MAF shouldn't make it run badly. As for the pipe it could be any of the breather pipes really so you need to check all over.
-
It made it run very badly, without the MAF - it seemed like there was no map or turbo at all! was a very big performance loss.
Heres a pic anyway https://www.dropbox.com/sh/64dvje8orrow0q0/7-XlU-5rTc#lh:null-2013-12-23%2016.12.29.jpg

it will run with no power but shouldn't make an erratic idle
