Hello all,
As our Gti is due to arrive in the near future and we potentially may want to keep it beyond 3 years I thought I'd have a look at the extended warranty.
Listed in the non-covered wear and tear items are shock absorbers.
As our car is fitted with ACC the thought of one of the dampers failing and not being covered does not exactly fill me with glee as no doubt the cost of repair would be ridiculous.
Now I appreciate that I'm possibly getting years ahead of myself and with any luck it'll never happen but do any MK6 / Roc owners have any knowledge of any ACC failures or is it a fairly reliable system.
Are the shocks as robust as standard shocks and likely to last long enough if not abused.
Finally, anybody any experience of VW's attitude to any failures?
Sometimes its best not to read up on stuff and just live in ignorance!!!

if the shock absorber fails in warranty period it should be replaced but normal wear and tear age/use won't be. same for most warrantable items really. as for VW warranty itself it depends on what dealer you go to unfortunately as not all have the same view.

Are the acc shocks more expensive than normal ones?

Good question, I remember that the hydraulic Audi RS4/6 suspension shocks had big problems which Audi acknowledged and extended the warranty on including revised parts.
Hopefully Volkswagen have got the reliability and manufacturing cost down on this latest generation DCC?
I do think that they should be covered under warranty though.
Any reports of VW DCC failures on the internet?

Hi the extended warranty can only be added at time of order or when vehicle is still at stage 1 of the ordering process at the price given eg £499 for 5 yr warranty. If you add it now or at the end of 3 years it will be much more expensive I'm afraid.

Bit of advice look at the VW terms and conditions of the standard 3 year warrenty (it use to be on their website) you may get a shock about whats not covered in that period for the same reasons

Standard shock is £80 each for the front, £90 each for the rear.
ACC Shock is £224 each for the front, £238 each for the rear.

Thanks for that, I'll just have to hope I get a good one.
I mistakenly thought that any extended warranty would just be added at the point of delivery similar to the service plan but obviously not.
Its not the end of the world I had just considered it for long term peace of mind. Knowing me I'll change the car after 2 years anyway!!

you can add the vw extended warranty right up until the car is first registered. once it's registered you can't do the extended 5 year job.

Had ACC/DCC issues with my 1st Scirocco, not shocks though, sensory malfunction. Sensor failures both happened in consecutive winters.

I have had two Scirocco's both with Adaptive Chassis Control (DCC) and neither have given a moments trouble in nearly 6 years worth of driving.
